Chapter 42 - Night Rest Disturbed By Unwanted Guests

Aster leapt from the tree, landing with the weightless grace of a drifting leaf. Unfortunately, whatever elegance he had on the way down was promptly ruined by the way he stomped toward the campfire, each step thudding with petulance. 

"I don't believe you," he spat as he closed the distance, his glare locking on the young mercenary with pure disdain.

"I bet you're just hiding the truth. How could a demon be satisfied with human food alone? Demons survive at the expense of others' lives! Or—" his voice pitched upward in mock realization, "ahh—when you say human food… You meant not the food humans eat… but that your food is humans!"

Aster gasped dramatically, covering his mouth as though the very thought poisoned the air. Then he turned his wide, frightened eyes toward Kael, who simply kept chewing, far too used to their squabbles to intervene yet. 

Kael almost rolled his eyes at Aster.

"How vulgar! How disgusting!" Aster suddenly shrieked.
