Chapter 100 - Building a New Life

POV: Ember

I drove the last nail into the cabin wall and stepped back to admire our work.

Three months. It had taken us three months to build this home from nothing but trees, determination, and supernatural strength.

"Mama, look!" Hope called from the loft. "I can see all the way to the valley from up here!"

"Be careful, sweetie. That railing isn't finished yet."

"I won't fall. My powers would catch me."

That was true. Over the past three months, Hope and Hunter's abilities had grown stronger than ever. They could levitate, create protective shields, and communicate telepathically with each other.

Sometimes I wondered if calling those Guardians had changed them somehow.

"Ember, come see this," Ash called from outside.

I walked out into the supernatural winter that still covered our mountain. The snow was three feet deep, but we'd learned to live with it. Our wolf forms kept us warm, and the children seemed to love the cold.
