"I heard they are going to cut off her finger," a guard said.
I shrank back against the hall in horror as another guard gave a nasty little laugh.
"It's exactly what she deserves."
The guards opened the door, and their noses wrinkled in disgust at the smell. For three days, I had not been allowed a bath, a change of clothes, food, or even water. I had been condemned to suffer the heat and forced to watch Vera and the triplets making love almost every night.
Nearly every inch of my body was covered with scratches and bruises. The heat had only stopped the day before, but every second before then, I had felt like dying.
The guards marched into the room and roughly grabbed my arms.
"Where are you taking me?" I asked, my voice a hoarse whisper.
"You'll find out soon enough," one of them said, winking at the other and deep fear shot through my spine.
