Mrs Gilbert is also a doctor like Mrs Perlman but works in the Gastroenterology department.
"See you later!" Mrs Perlman waved with smiles on her face.
Riley picked up the coffee mug from the table and washed it.
"Mom, I really missed you in the past couple of days. You've not been home for a while now."
"I've been busy you know, there are lots of things I need to clear up. This time I'm just taking a short break." Mrs Perlman sighed.
Riley sat down on the task chair close to her mother and hugged her neck as she sniffed in her scent.
"Ha, I really missed your sweet scent." Riley chuckled.
"Are you a baby? Don't act like that." Mrs Perlman smiled while massaging her daughter's arms.
"Not only babies act like that. Well, at least I'm still your baby." Riley pouted and smiled to her mother.
"Of course you'll always be my princess." Mrs. Perlman pinched her nose.
They both stared at each other while smiling before Mrs Perlman picked up one of her daughter's palms as she massaged it.
"Rye, I would like to speak with you about something very important."
"What's wrong mom? Is everything okay? This is suspicious." Riley squinted her eyes. "What is it?"
She didn't even allow her mother to speak before jumping into conclusions.
"Be patient, it's…... a very important matter I'd like you to think about. I know it's so sudden…. but it's the best I can do for you now." Mrs Perlman sighed with slight smile on her lips.
"I'm all ears." Riley then adjusted her chair before sitting up staring at her mother.
"I would like you to get married soon." Mrs Perlman announced.
Riley thought she heard the wrong thing as her eyes widened. "Mom is…. everything okay? Why are you suddenly deciding this?" Riley checking her mother's temperature with her hands twitching.
"Rye, I know it's too sudden, but I want you to get married as soon as possible. I'm so sorry to rush you like this." Mrs Perlman almost in tears with her eyes blinking.
"Mom, what do you mean get married? I don't even have a boyfriend. An arranged marriage…. is the last thing I would want to have. There are many men out there who get married and then turn out to be the worst nightmare ever." Riley pleaded.
"Not to talk about an arranged one, where I don't even know who he is. And I haven't even graduated yet." Riley frowned folding her arms under her chest.
"Rye, you can register your marriage now, you don't have to jump into everything all at once. I just want you to get married soon." Mrs Perlman sighed. "You both can get to know each other in the process and then decide what you want."
"You can trust me on this one I promise you. He's a good person." Mrs Perlman assured. "I and your aunt Lucy raised him together. Along with an especially important person you'll meet him soon."
"There are also other people in the family, but you don't need to care about them for now." Mrs Perlman added.
"Who?" Riley raised an eyebrow.
"He's your Aunt Lucy's nephew." Mrs Perlman whispered.
"Oh…. really, I never knew Aunt Lucy had a nephew." Riley frowned.
"My princess, would you please do this for me?" Her mother pleaded holding her hand while tears filled her eyes.
"But mom, there must be something you're not telling me, right? You've never discussed any marriage matter with me and suddenly you're telling me to get married." Riley continued to frown while staring at her mother. She can feel the atmosphere strong and serious knowing well that her mother meant everything she just said to her.
Still observing her mother's expression, she sighed softly.
"Alright mom. I'll do as you say." Riley agreed and smiled slightly.
Mrs Perlman's eyes lightened up immediately Riley agreed to get married and hugged her tightly.
"I'm sorry I have to make it so sudden, But I'm just in a bit of a rush." Tears rolled down Mrs Perlman's cheeks.
"Oh mom, you don't need to cry. Your little princess here will fulfill your desires." She wiped the tears off her mother's cheeks and hugged her while smiling.
Right from a very young age after her father died, she watched her mother go from chronic distress to happiness overtime. It has always been her wish to make her mother happy. And right now, her mother's current request is a must fulfill for her.
"Mom, can we schedule the marriage registration till after my internship interview. I have to prepare, and I can't have other things ongoing." Riley pouted and blinked her eyelids multiple times in a cute manner.
"I really want it to happen very soon, but I'll let you finish the interview process before we decide. Also, you both will meet before the day." Mrs Perlman replied.
"We…. will be meeting? Like…... on a date? Together?" Riley stuttered as her eyes widened.
"Yes, it's better we schedule it like that, so you both will be more familiar with each other."
Riley felt her mother was been unfair with her and frowned immediately her mother dropped another bombshell that threw her off guard. She had just agreed to get married to someone she has never met before and now she has to go on a date.
Riley sighed after thinking about everything and decided to ask her mother few things about her soon to be husband.
"What's…. his name? Or do you have any information about him I would like to…. see what he looks like. Is it a good family? How old is he?" Riley rushed to ask her mother.
"About his family, we'll meet them after the marriage registration."
"I'll send you his information when I'm less busy, his name is Ethan Moore. He's the CEO of…."
The emergency alarm from Mrs Bai's phone rang cutting off her words. Mrs Perlman quickly checked what the emergency is about and replied with a text.
"Rye, when I get home tomorrow, let's talk more about it. Okay?" She put on her coat and selected two ballpoints pen on her desk and put it in her chest pocket.
"Okay mom, I'll wait for you till you're back. If I go home now…... I don't know what they'll provoke me to do again." Riley frowned.
"That's alright with me, but just in case I'm not back till evening, just go home and wait for me. I have a seminar to attend, and it might take a while till I'm back. Also, I might have to come back tomorrow morning, so don't wait too long." Mrs Perlman pecked her daughter's cheeks before leaving in a fast pace.
"Alright mom, be careful." She smiled and waved till her mother was out of sight.
