Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: I hope you’re right

Riley stood up from the task chair as she starts to arrange and clean up few places in the office. She picked up the coffee mug and washed them properly before returning them back to its place.

After settling down she picked up her laptop from the tote bag. She clicked on the link the professor sent to her mail for the internship program. As She began filling the information and documents needed. Moving on to the next page where she must submit a copy of what she has designed herself before.

She selected a few drafts she has on her file and submitted it. Giving back replies to her email, the main interview is scheduled in the next few days.

Riley finished the process in two hours and decided to take a nap before going home later.

Her journey has really been back and forth starting from going to school and then back to her mother's office. She then lay down on the couch by the corner of the office.

Zoey Perlman is dressed in a black satin mini dress of draped neckline and adjustable spaghetti straps.

Her hair is styled in a pink curly bob with bangs. Unlike Riley who prefers her hair been long and black and always took care of it. Zoey loves to follow current trends and styles which changes her appearance every month.

Zoey added a rosy makeup and a black platform stiletto heel to finish the sexy look.

"And where do you think you're going to?" Aunt Mia's loud voice asking as she's seated on the couch in the living room.

"I'm going for rehearsal. The coach is expecting us. I have to go mom." Zoey turning to leave as she closed the door to her room.

She hastened her steps close to the door before her mother threw a plastic bottle full of water to her direction.

"And why do you think I'll let you go, huh?" Aunt Mia scolded with a frown. "I'm I a joke to you? Must you become a model? Your cousin is out there trying to become an architect. What about you? Must you continue to embarrass me like this?" Mia's eyes became teary as she took few steps towards her daughter.

"Zoey, please listen to me, huh? I know what's best for you. I've experienced this and I gained nothing. Please, it's not too late to turn back." Mia uttered in a hoarse voice as tears flowed down her cheeks.

"Mom, stop... stop. What do you mean by that?" Zoey screamed loud. I'm not like you… and I'm never going to live like you. You were not determined enough to become an actress. But I…. will do anything to become a successful model. I'm working hard to change our lives for good and I'm not asking for your support, you can continue to live with them…... like..." Zoey frowning turned and opened the door to the house.

"Zoey! Zoey! Come back here." Mia screamed her daughter's name on top of her voice, but it fell on deaf ears because she slammed the door very loudly, leaving her mother to sort out her distress.

"Ho…. how did it all come to this? Where did things start to go wrong?" Mia muttered to herself in a hoarse voice and fell on her knees sobbing as tears flooded her face.

Riley woke up later in the evening, she just wanted to take a nap, but it turned into a sleeping session. She yawned while stretching her body on the couch. She thought her mother should be back by now, but she was no where to be found in the office.

By the time Riley picked up her phone on her mother's desk, she had received a text from her mother while she was asleep, noting that she would not be able to come back that night due to attending another meeting set up by the director of the hospital.

Riley sighed as she read the text. She checked the time and decided to stay a little bit longer. That way she wouldn't have to see her aunt and cousin as they would be asleep by the time she gets home.

She picked up her tablets from the bag and decided to design something. She opened a blank page but ends up canceling out her mistakes before she starts the main design.

"Ughhh!" Riley screamed before closing the tablet with a frown.

"I can't focus at all." She muttered to herself.

Her thought is fully on the marriage with the man she doesn't know. "I hope you're right about him mom, he better be a really good person." Riley mumbled as she squeezed her eyes shut.

Few moments later, Riley decided to go home after waiting an hour for her mother to come back which she didn't.

She put in the security code for the door before entering the house. Immediately she entered the house, she met Mia sitting on the edge of the couch facing the door to the house with a frown on her face.

Riley wondered what has gotten into her this time as she rolled her eyes and passed by walking over to her room.

Mia didn't even spare her a glance with her attention on the door as she tapped her legs together multiple times.

Riley fell on the bed as soon as she entered the room while making a big yawn.

Her room is painted white. An average sized room and cozy with her vanity table by the left side of the wall while her drafting table is positioned in the opposite direction of her bed. Her tools for designing were placed on the table, sketchbook, pens and markers, model cardboard and so on.

She picked up her phone to see if she has missed any gist from her friends. She clicked the group chat, as her eyes widened at the sight of the multiple text messages.

She quickly sat up on the bed, with her legs folded. She quickly clicked on the group video call logo on her phone. Immediately the call connected, Riley had to move the phone further while turning her face to the other side.

"Aaahhh!" A lady shrieked in a high-pitched voice once she came in sight with her friend.

Riley and the other lady covered their ear with one hand.

"Ruby! You're so loud." Riley scolded while smiling.

"I've always told her to keep her voice down, I don't know if she's an animal sometimes, ugh!" Veda replied to Riley's statement about Ruby.

"I've really missed you both." Riley pouted.

"Hey, we missed you too!" Veda exclaimed with smiles as sweat dripped down her cheeks.

"Of course, we've missed you so much!" Ruby chimed in, her smile visible on the screen.

"Veda, why are you looking so sweaty? Don't tell me…. you're at the drill hall by this time?" Riley glared with a frown.

"Yes, I am." Veda smiled while showing the racket through the video as she wiped her sweat with her shirt. "I need to practice; I can't miss the opportunity for the provincial tournament." Veda hanged her phone on the tripod and fix earbuds into her ears.

Veda is a badminton player, soon she'll be selected to go for the provincial tournament match. So, she often places her phone on the tripod to record herself during the drill session.

"You both can continue chatting, I can hear you. I must continue practicing." With that Veda left Ruby and Riley on the call while she goes on to practice.

"Alright, be careful not to hurt yourself." Riley said and sighed after.

"Ruby, what are you doing these days? How is your design coming through?" Riley asked as she changed her sitting position.

"Don't mention that please. I feel like I'm going crazy already." Ruby grumbled.

"What's wrong? Is fashion designing turning your head already?" Riley laughed hard clapping her hands.

"Riley, are you making fun of me? I'm so damn serious right now." Ruby frowned.

"I'm sorry! I'm sorry!" Riley chuckled. "What's wrong? Tell me, who's bullying you?"

"We were asked to create a design representing time. And I have too many drafts but don't know which one to pick." Ruby sighed.

"Wow! I never thought you'd be given such a big task. I thought this was task given to professionals. I guess they really want to test your high skills. Sending you little strength from mine." Riley smiled.

"What do you mean by little strength?"
