Chapter 2 Fallen Mother Volume Two: Continuation

After getting everything in order, my elegant and beautiful mother prepared to leave for work. Before she left, she called me over and quietly reminded me to be a bit nicer to Old Jiao at home after all, he was new here and didn't know his way around.

I responded with an "oh," agreeing half-heartedly.

She didn't just talk to me; she also gave Old Jiao a few words of advice. He listened earnestly and smiled, "Girl, don't worry. I'll listen to Xiao Fan for everything. I don't know much, but I definitely won't cause any trouble."

Mom thought for a moment, then took a few hundred-yuan bills from her purse and handed them to Old Jiao.

"Girl, what's this for? This is too formal," Old Jiao said, embarrassed.

"Take it!" Mom said in a tone that brooked no argument.

"Well, since you insist, I'll take it," he said, still embarrassed.

"If you need anything, just have Fan Fan call me."

"Okay."

After these instructions, Mom finally left, so the house was just me and Old Jiao.

I wasn't familiar with Old Jiao and didn't like him much mainly because he was so sloppy. But then he looked at me and handed me the money Mom had just given him.

"Xiao Fan, I can't take this money. You keep it," he said.

Of course, I refused. If Mom found out, I'd get a lecture. So I shook my head. "Since my mom gave it to you, you keep it."

Old Jiao scratched his head and smiled. "All right, if you want to buy anything, just ask. I'll give you the money right away."

I replied impatiently, "Fine, whatever. Watch TV if you want, I'm going to play on the computer."

Then I went to my room, locked the door, and sat at my computer.

I started a game, put on my headphones, and lost myself in my own world. Time passed quickly an hour or two flew by. Eventually, I couldn't hold it and ran to the bathroom. When I came back, I was about to play again, but suddenly thought of Old Jiao. I wondered what he was doing. Now that there was a stranger in the house, I needed to keep an eye on him.

On the mountain, there was no internet or cameras, so I couldn't know what he was up to. But here at home, the pinhole cameras were still there, so I turned on the surveillance.

No one in the bedrooms so I checked the living room.

On the living room camera, I saw Old Jiao sitting on the sofa, the TV on and sound coming out. He seemed to see something funny and immediately started laughing, looking every bit the country bumpkin he was. In fact, he really was a country bumpkin sloppy and out of place in our clean home, though at least his clothes were a bit better now.

I watched the surveillance for a while nothing unusual so I turned it off and went back to my game. At lunch, I left my room. Old Jiao offered to cook, but I refused he didn't know his way around the kitchen, and I didn't want any accidents. So I ordered takeout.

Honestly, I had nothing to talk about with Old Jiao. After lunch, I went back to my room a total homebody.

Around five in the afternoon, I shut down the computer and went to the living room, only to find Old Jiao wasn't there.

Not in the living room maybe in the bedroom? I didn't really care, so I didn't check. I went to the balcony to stretch and move around. Suddenly, I looked down and saw Old Jiao downstairs.

He was poking through the trash with a stick. I had no idea what he was doing. After a while, he pulled out a plastic water bottle and looked happy.

I felt nothing but disdain. Of all things, he was digging through the trash and in a high-end neighborhood! As someone who knew him, I was embarrassed.

Just then, a sanitation worker walked by and saw Old Jiao. The worker's face turned disdainful, and he said a few unfriendly words. I don't know what was said, but the worker started shoving Old Jiao. At first, Old Jiao dodged and didn't fight back, but after being pushed to the ground and kicked, he snapped.

He got up and knocked the worker down, then started kicking him. From upstairs, I couldn't see his expression, but I imagined he looked fierce.

The worker soon begged for mercy. Passersby avoided the scene.

Eventually, Old Jiao stopped, bent down, and said something to the worker, who took out his wallet. Old Jiao grabbed it, took out a hundred or so yuan, stuffed it in his pocket, and tossed the wallet back.

The worker ran off, humiliated.

I was stunned. I never expected Old Jiao, who looked so skinny and weak, to be so strong and not someone to be bullied.

He tossed the bottle back in the trash and suddenly jogged off. I noticed a red Audi slowly driving over Mom's car.

She parked, got out, and Old Jiao hurried over. I don't know what they said, but Mom opened the trunk, and Old Jiao rolled up his sleeves, grabbed several full shopping bags, and followed her into the building.

Soon after, the door opened and Mom and Old Jiao came in.

I was sitting on the sofa, pretending to watch TV.

"Fan Fan, wash your hands and get out the dishes we're eating," Mom said.

I answered, "Okay."

Soon, the three of us sat at the table.

The plastic bags were all hotel takeout. Just as we were about to eat, Mom suddenly remembered something, got up, and returned with a bottle of Moutai.

Seeing that bottle, I felt uneasy it was real Moutai, worth tens of thousands, a gift from someone wealthy.

Mom set the bottle in front of Old Jiao.
