A massive fireball shot from Natsuhi's mouth. But Jinpachi stood before it, and with a single swing of his Blastsword, he cleaved the giant projectile in two.
"His strength is incredible. To split my fireball with just one slash," Natsuhi muttered, her expression turning serious. The density of that fireball had been immense.
"Fire Style! Phoenix Sage Fire Jutsu!" She quickly retreated, launching several smaller fireballs towards Jinpachi. Kusuo had only ever seen this jutsu used by Itachi Uchiha. He had expected it to damage Jinpachi, but to his surprise, the swordsman simply batted them away with his Blastsword, extinguishing them completely.
"It seems he really does have some skill," Kusuo thought. While he himself wouldn't have trouble with Jinpachi, the one currently fighting was Natsuhi. Kusuo wasn't sure if she had the ability to win this fight. Although the jutsus she was using were powerful, she had yet to show any signs of faltering. He glanced at the Anbu captain, who stood watching nearby. The four of them were locked in a standoff.
"I never thought a young girl could use such powerful ninjutsu. Who are you? Are you from the Uchiha clan?"
Hearing that name, even Kusuo was a little surprised. It seemed the Uchiha clan had left a lasting shadow on many, instilling a sense of dread even in the legendary Seven Ninja Swordsmen.
"I serve under Lord Hatake Kusuo," Natsuhi declared.
Her words genuinely surprised Kusuo. He never expected her to say something like that at such a critical moment.
"So, not an Uchiha, yet you can wield such powerful fire-style jutsu. It seems you have some talent, little girl."
Hearing Jinpachi's praise, Kusuo felt a sense of unease.
"But no matter how talented you are, you will die here today." With that, the Blastsword swung towards Natsuhi again.
"Peacock Method! Defend!" A red protective shield instantly appeared around her. But with a deafening crash, Jinpachi's blade shattered it in a single strike. Kusuo instantly understood that Jinpachi was now using his full strength.
The previous night, Kusuo had been studying the puppet jutsu scroll. The technique used on this puppet was different from the one used in the Hidden Star Village. The power flowing through Jinpachi was far greater. What surprised Kusuo most was that he couldn't trace the chakra thread to its source; it simply seemed to disappear into the ground. "It seems the user of this jutsu is quite skilled," he mused.
Jinpachi's attacks grew more ferocious, and Natsuhi was forced further and further back.
"Fall back. I'll take over," Kusuo said, about to intervene, but Natsuhi stopped him.
"Lord Kusuo, please trust me. I can definitely do this."
With that, she quickly formed hand seals and threw several shuriken at Jinpachi.
Boom!
Four explosive tags detonated instantly.
"Fire Style! Great Fireball Jutsu!" A massive fireball surged towards the center of the explosion. The flames burned for nearly half a minute before finally dissipating.
Kusuo looked at Natsuhi with a newfound respect. He never thought that a once-average ninja could wield such powerful techniques. In terms of fire-style jutsu, perhaps only Itachi Uchiha could rival her.
As the flames died down, a figure emerged from the smoke.
"How can this be!?" Before Natsuhi could react, the Blastsword was swinging towards her face.
"Move!"
Clang!
Kusuo drew his short sword and blocked the full force of the blow.
"Hmm?" Jinpachi frowned at Kusuo. "And who are you?"
Kusuo didn't answer. With a twist of his wrist, a bloody gash appeared on Jinpachi's arm.
"Argh!" Jinpachi immediately swung the Blastsword at Kusuo, but with Kusuo's speed, the blade couldn't touch him.
"Weren't you unable to fight just now?" Jinpachi asked, his brow furrowed.
Kusuo let out a cold laugh. "I was merely standing by because I wanted to see how strong you really were. And now I have. You're not that impressive."
Just as Kusuo was about to press his attack, Natsuhi placed a hand on his shoulder from behind. "Lord Kusuo, please. I can do this."
