Natsuhi charged at Jinpachi once more. This time, her chakra instantly surged, and the dagger hidden on Kusuo's person pulsed with a faint light. A purple-black flame erupted from Natsuhi's body. Kusuo immediately recognized the familiar chakra.
"It's the Star's power again." He hadn't expected the purple chakra, which had been nearly depleted, to suddenly flare up so intensely. He drew the dagger. He had already extracted the chakra from it, yet now, it was inexplicably reappearing.
"Little girl, this time I won't give you any more chances," Jinpachi said, a dangerous glint in his eyes.
"Perhaps you've misunderstood my true power," Natsuhi retorted. "Our village has indeed been hidden for too long." The purple chakra burst forth from her, a bewitching, dark flame in the dense fog. "After years of training in the Hidden Star Village, I will not lose to you!"
She quickly formed hand seals, and a purple blade materialized in her hand.
Jinpachi, however, just sneered. "It seems you've misunderstood me as well." He slowly removed his mask, revealing the unmistakable face of Jinpachi Munashi.
"So you really were reanimated," Kusuo said, his eyes narrowing. The chakra thread connected to Jinpachi's back began to glow with even greater power.
Jinpachi vanished, and a powerful sword strike appeared right beside Natsuhi, sending her stumbling back. This time, however, she wasn't as helpless as before.
"Peacock Method! Slash!" A purple blade of energy shot towards Jinpachi. He raised his Blastsword to block. With a tremendous crash, Jinpachi's body was sent flying back several dozen feet. Two deep gouges were carved into the ground where he had been standing.
Kusuo's chin tilted up slightly in approval. The dense fog that had filled the forest began to dissipate. He could now clearly see a trickle of blood at the corner of Jinpachi's mouth. What was more surprising was that Jinpachi's eyes were normal, not the black sclera of a typical reanimated shinobi. Kusuo found this strange, but he knew this wasn't the time to ponder it.
"Water Style! Water Bullet Jutsu!" Just as Natsuhi was preparing her next move, the Anbu captain attacked from the side. A few water bullets struck her, forcing her back a step. A thin line of blood trickled from the corner of her mouth.
"You dare to attack from behind?" Kusuo's voice was cold as his figure vanished. The next second, before the ninja could even speak, Kusuo's blade struck him down. The Anbu's body fell lifelessly from the tree branch.
"That swordsmanship…" Even Jinpachi was in awe of Kusuo's skill.
"Don't get distracted."
Pfft.
Natsuhi's blade pierced through Jinpachi's chest. A spray of blood erupted from the wound.
"Damn you!" Jinpachi roared, swinging his Blastsword at Natsuhi, completely disregarding his own injury. He now recognized the threat she posed and attacked with lethal intent, aiming for her vital points with every strike.
This time, Natsuhi had fully unleashed the Star's chakra. She calmly defended against Jinpachi's onslaught. Kusuo watched with great interest. "I wonder if the legendary Blastsword can stand up to the chakra flowing through Natsuhi," he mused. He could feel the raw, untamed power radiating from her. The shield and blade she had created were incredibly sharp and durable, holding their own against Jinpachi's Blastsword without any sign of fear.
The clash of their weapons echoed through the clearing. Suddenly, Natsuhi leaped high into the air, her wings beating rapidly. The powerful force propelled her body towards Jinpachi at incredible speed.
Pfft.
Jinpachi's body was sent flying back once again. He coughed up another mouthful of blood, but the Blastsword in his hand remained undamaged.
"It seems I really underestimated you, little girl."
