Chapter 28 - Chapter 28: The Truth Eaters Descend

---

🌌 Scene 1 – The Sky Tears

It began with a scream —

not from earth, not from man, but from the sky itself.

The sun cracked.

Clouds tore open like wet paper.

And from the rift above descended creatures made of glass and silence.

No faces.

No names.

Just a shape and a hunger.

> "Truth Eaters," the priest whispered in horror.

"They unwrite you."

Cassia drew her blade.

> "How do we fight something that eats the idea of you?"

Kael didn't answer.

He stepped forward, Ashmourne in hand, as the first Eater screeched and erased an entire tree from history.

---

💀 Scene 2 – Devourers of Identity

The Truth Eaters didn't move fast.

They folded space, appearing suddenly beside memories.

A statue of an ancient hero vanished.

A battlefield's blood dried as if war never happened.

A child in a village cried, "Mama, who am I?" — and collapsed, forgotten by even herself.

Kael grit his teeth.

> "They're targeting anchors. People who remember me."

He turned to Cassia.

> "Get to the Hollow Pillars. Protect the memory-keepers."

> "What about you?" she asked.

Kael raised his sword.

> "I'll give them something too big to chew."

---

🧠 Scene 3 – Battle of Existence

Kael leapt toward the first Eater.

Ashmourne didn't slice flesh — it carved into unreality.

Each strike brought back sound, names, colors the Eaters tried to consume.

One Truth Eater wrapped around him, sinking into his chest, clawing at his soul.

Kael felt it.

His memories slipping…

The voice of his mother.

His first failure.

The moment he chose vengeance.

> "Forget…" the Eater hissed.

> "No," Kael whispered, "you forget."

And drove Ashmourne through its core.

The Eater shattered — and all it had stolen returned.

---

🌌 Scene 4 – The Child Arrives

Amid the chaos, a small figure approached Kael from behind.

A boy. No older than twelve.

Wide eyes.

No weapon.

Just a scroll strapped to his back.

Kael turned.

And saw…

Himself.

> "You're Kael the Prophet," Kael said.

The boy nodded.

> "I was the first to write about the gods' lie. They burned me."

He opened the scroll.

It pulsed with forbidden ink.

> "Want help?"

Kael smiled.

> "Let's show them what happens when they burn the wrong kid."

---

🩸 Scene 5 – Rewrite and Unwrite

Together, Kael and his child-self moved as one.

The boy used the scroll to trap Eaters in loops of forgotten prophecy.

Kael struck through those loops with Ashmourne, erasing their hold on reality.

More Eaters came — dozens.

Screeching. Tearing names from the air.

Kael fell to one knee.

> "They're trying to unwrite me again—"

The boy placed a hand on Kael's chest.

> "Then remember me. We were real."

Kael stood again, full strength.

The sky trembled.

And he spoke his full name:

> "KAEL'THOROS VEX — 75 lives, 1 truth."

And the world shook with it.

---

🛡️ Scene 6 – The Collapse of the Eaters

The Truth Eaters faltered.

They couldn't consume him.

His identity wasn't singular anymore —

it was a constellation of truths.

Cassia, watching from a distance, wept as her forgotten memories surged back.

Villages sang a name long erased.

And across the sky…

The Truth Eaters dissolved into stardust.

Only silence remained.

Kael stood in the ash.

His younger self smiled.

> "One day, we'll all merge.

And when that happens—"

Kael nodded.

> "The gods won't just fall.

They'll remember why they should've feared me."
