When Adrian came home, he was immediately puzzled to see a small heart-patterned gift box sitting on the bed. Frowning, he picked it up. He didn't open it right away, examining it carefully. Today wasn't his birthday, as far as he remembered.
As he stood there thinking, someone hugged him from behind. His frown melted into a soft, happy smile. The tiredness of the day disappeared, replaced by joy.
"Open it," Bianca whispered in his ear.
"What is this?"
"A gift for you."
"A gift? You didn't get my birthday wrong, did you, babe?"
"Silly. It's not for your birthday. I just wanted to give it to you. Open it…" Bianca said, barely hiding her excitement.
"Okay."
Slowly, Adrian untied the ribbon and opened the box. His eyes narrowed as he saw a digital thermometer inside. But something seemed off. There were no numbers—just two red lines. He blinked, unable to believe his eyes.
