Chapter 38 - Chapter 38: Heading to Roppuru’s Home

When Roppuru's spaceship arrived at Koya Koya Planet, I didn't go home like in the original story.

Doraemon tried it out and found that even after the spaceship had traveled, the warehouse door still led straight to my room back on Earth.

So, we were happy to agree to stay.

By following Roppuru home, I didn't have to deal with the flood disaster like in the original timeline. If that had happened again, it would've been a real mess for me.

The spaceship slipped through Koya Koya's atmosphere, and the planet's surface gradually came into view.

It wasn't the paradise I'd imagined—no birdsong or fragrant flowers. Instead, the land was scarred with deep gullies, bleak and barren as far as the eye could see.

How could there be such fresh air in a place like this, with such a harsh climate? I was genuinely stumped.

Roppuru must've noticed my confusion. He explained, "Every year, Koya Koya's winters are hit by fierce snowstorms, and then, just before spring, massive floods. To survive, the animals and plants burrow underground to hide from the harsh weather, so the surface looks deserted right now."

"Our family, and everyone else here, lowers their homes underground every winter and early spring to avoid the storms and floods. We stay below until the waters recede," Roppuru continued.

"But when the floods are over, they leave behind nutrients that make the plants grow even more lush. Koya Koya comes back to life, again and again."

"That's amazing! Nature has such strange rules!" Doraemon and I exclaimed in awe.

We chatted as Roppuru piloted the ship to a desolate plain.

"We're here, Nobita! Come take a look!" Roppuru invited with a big smile.

The hatch opened, and Doraemon and I looked out at the barren landscape.

We followed Roppuru out onto the ground. I tapped my foot on the dirt—it didn't seem all that different from the sand and gravel back home on Earth.

Suddenly—

"Wow, my body feels so light!" Doraemon shouted, delighted.

He gave a little hop and soared way up, his stubby legs kicking in the air.

Then, without warning, Doraemon lifted a huge boulder like it was nothing.

"Nobita, it's the gravity! It's so much lighter here than on Earth!" Doraemon grinned.

I felt a little proud, seeing how effortlessly we handled things here. Roppuru was clearly amazed, and I could tell he was firming up some idea in his mind.

"Nobita, Doraemon!" Roppuru called us over.

"Coming!" Doraemon and I gave up our goofing around and hurried to catch up.

We arrived at a patch of plain that looked completely ordinary.

Roppuru spoke into his communicator—no idea what he said.

Suddenly, the quiet ground trembled and roared. A giant metallic bud burst upwards, breaking through the earth.

Once the steel bud had fully risen, its petals opened to reveal a beautiful house inside.

"Wow!" Doraemon gasped.

The door to the house swung open, and out walked a young girl and a beautiful woman.

The girl stretched and yawned, "Winter felt so long! The air outside is so refreshing, right, Mom?"

Roppuru saw them and dashed over, shouting, "I'm home, Mom! Clem!"

They were just as excited, "Roppuru, you're back!"

"Big brother! You're back!"

"Chammy, I'm home too!" Chammy hopped over, bouncing with excitement.

"We didn't forget you, Chammy!" Everyone laughed together.

Roppuru suddenly remembered us. "Oh, right! Clem, Mom, let me introduce you—this is Nobita and Doraemon! They saved me and Chammy from danger."

He turned to us. "Nobita, Doraemon, this is my mom and my little sister, Clem!"

Doraemon and I smiled politely. "Auntie, Clem, it's great to meet you! We're Roppuru's good friends."

I took a closer look at the girl and the woman in front of me.

The girl, Clem, wore a red-and-white dress, full of youthful energy. Like Roppuru, her hair was short and green.

Her mother wore a long, grayish-purple dress with pants and a pink shawl draped over her shoulders—still a little cold after Koya Koya's long winter. She, too, had that green hair, but hers was long, flowing all the way to her waist. There was a gentle, homely grace about her—she was the picture of a caring mother.

"Wow! You're the ones Big Brother mentioned in his messages—the ones from Earth?" Clem asked, eyes wide.

"Yep! Just flip over a tatami mat and we're there," I said with a grin.

"Thank you so much for saving Roppuru and Chammy in that dangerous situation," Clem's mom said, bowing deeply.

"Oh, it was nothing!" Doraemon and I replied modestly.

"Alright, let's all go inside and chat," Roppuru said, leading us in.

"Nobita, Doraemon—welcome to my home!" Roppuru said warmly.

We all laughed and chatted as we went inside.
