The gentle swaying motion of Landon's powerful stride lulled me into a peaceful state as he carried me back to the castle. My wolf form remained nestled against his broad chest, my fur still slightly damp from the earlier exertion and the light mist that had begun to fall.
"You were magnificent tonight," he murmured, his fingers stroking through my fur in a way that made my tail thump involuntarily against his arm. "Though I shouldn't be surprised anymore by what you're capable of."
I preened under his praise, unable to help the wolf-like smugness that bubbled up inside me. Despite the pain still radiating from my leg, victory tasted sweet.
"Though I'm still wondering what Ronan was thinking, letting you get injured," he added, his tone darkening considerably. "Some 'protector' he turned out to be."
I huffed, nudging my nose against his chin reproachfully. «It wasn't his fault. I made my own decision to jump.»
