"Mother, she is my woman and she can't be subject to this kind of treatment," Zeenare insisted, his voice tight with desperation.

"Of course she is your woman. One who only the gods could tell whatever sick things you have been up to down there in Earth," she retorted, her voice dripping with cold scorn.

"Mother, what are you saying?" Zeenare asked, his brow furrowing in confusion.

"I am extremely disappointed in you, Zee. You came months ago talking about the curse changing and surprisingly moved to asking if I had seen a human changing into a Siren," She scoffed, the sound sharp and dismissive.

Then continued, "Not knowing you were creating a taboo."

"Mother, that is not what happened let me explain," Zeenare pleaded, taking a step toward her.

She took a step closer to Zeenare. "Explain? Explain! Then explain to me what I should do now that doubts will be brewing in my court, and if I'm not careful, the entire court!" Her voice rose, edged with raw political frustration.
