Chapter 5 - The Hunt

Aiden ran into the deep woods tracing the unfamiliar scent he could smell. After running for a while he found out he had arrived at the end of the woods. He shifted into his human form bending down picking some earth and observing the area.

He couldn't pick up any scent anymore, he looked over the road out of the woods filled with dust, if they were to leave using this dusty road at least there would be tracks of footprint or rather car tires.

At this moment, all he needed was a lead to track them down. Suddenly his mind seemed to be encircled in thoughts as he remembered the map of the pack; 'the East of the map leading to an end point of the vast waterfall. The North on the other hand hand an open road space. But the south, the south had mountains, good enough for an intruder to escape if not monitored'.

Aiden pondered as he stood up dipping his hands into his pocket. If they had really escaped to the south, then the unfamiliar scent could only be a trap luring him away from their plan.

He smirked as he thought about how sneaky their plan could actually be. Whoever it was did do some careful planning about the entire situation. Bringing out his phone and dialing a number, he placed the phone over his ear.

Seth on the other hand lay on his bed asleep when the ringing of his phone woke him up. He opened his eyes lazily like a young master being forced up for house chores, looking at the caller's ID, he picked the phone quietly putting it on speaker whilst still exhibiting that lazy demeanor.

"Hello" the cold voice of Aiden sounded on the phone.

" What's up, I'm currently on an eight hour night tour before being woken by your disturbing phone call " Seth said still having the the lazy and sarcastic tone on the phone.

"Gather some men to scout the mountains in the south, make sure a nook en crannies are searched. If there's anything unusual, just report back to me". Aiden said ending the phone call leaving no space for Seth to budge.

The Seth on the bed frowned with annoyance as he lazily got off the bed to get changed.

"I might as well quit be the Beta!!" he pouted. He changed his clothes and opened the door leaving the room.

As he climbed downstairs, his eyes fell on his cousin who was by the refrigerator having a glass of water.

She looked at him as he came down putting on a green woolen sweatshirt with grey pants, his curtain mullet hairstyle giving him an outstanding vibe.

"Heading somewhere?" she asked.

"Ohh yeah. Pack issues, probably be back late" he replied her.

She nodded her head slightly before taking a sip of the water in the glass. She looked at the emptiness in the glass after drinking all of it, shaking the cup before keeping it back.

"Wanna tag along, I'm quite sure I can guarantee your protection." Seth smirked while she gave him a deadly glance.

She raised her head seeming to think about something;

" Isn't it just council meetings?"

Seth looked at her with a scoff knowing she assumed she would be bored following him as council meetings were usually boring if you don't participate.

"Na, it's actually just scouting the mountains, I'm sure you know what I mean." he replied her.

Her eyes lightened up hearing his reply. About stepping forward, she suddenly remembered she was still in her night gown.

"Hold on for a minute." she said as she rushed upstairs to get changed before she followed.

After a few minutes she arrived downstairs and saw Seth outside the house. She rushed outside to meet him knowing he must be waiting for her as he probably needed to be thereon time.

"Let's get going." Paisley said as she came outside.

"Wait here." Seth said as he hurried to the parking lot to get his car. Soon a white Porsche was parked outside the house.

Seeing the exquisite car, Paisley scoffed at her young cousin.

"What, impressed by my achievement." Seth said still being as sarcastic as ever.

"Silly. I have a Lambo just in case you're curious." Paisley said whilst she opened the door getting in the front seat besides him.

"Really huh, then I'd need to test your driving skills someday". He said before starting the car engine which was quite quite.

I'm a few seconds the car was on the road diving up to the cold mountainside in the south.

After making the phone call, Aiden didn't hesitate to shift into his wolf form and start the run back to where Chester was.

Chester on the other hand was busy reviewing the results of the investigation made by the scouts when a running wolf arrived at the scene and shifted into Aiden.

"You didn't find anything did you?" Chester asked as he saw Aiden come closer without any unusual scent lingering around him.

"Not actually." Aiden replied with a fixed expression.

"Guessed so. Anyway one of the scouts found something I think you might be interested in seeing." Chester said.

Aiden didn't show any sign of amusement but rather kept his cold and emotionless face fixed as Chester led him to spot where some wild garlic grew.

One could see the stain of blood there, as even the wild garlics had some specks of blood of them. Signs of a brutal fight happening could be seen, as even the trees had cut marks.

Aiden bent down hopping to find something. Suddenly his eyes twitched as he caught a glimpse of something. He went closer taking a closer look at the object half covered in earth.

"Do you recognize it?" Chester asked.

"Yeah, this pendant belongs to the heir of the Vinter family." Aiden replied as he stood up. "Inform the old man of the Vinter family, I'll go now. "

"Noted." Chester replied as he followed Aiden back.

Aiden walked outside the woods to where he had parked his car. Entering the car and starting the engine, he loosened his tie exuding an aura of elegance and maturity.

After thinking for a second, he rolled the glasses of the car and saw Chester about to leave.

"Position some men in the woods, just in case someone tries a sneaky plan behind my back".

Chester understood what he meant and only nodded while Aiden rolled up the glasses and drove away while Chester signed deeply before entering the woods to clean up the mess made by the unknown scoundrels.

Meanwhile Aiden in the car started drawing clues together on while the Vinter family's pendant would be in the crime scene.

"Felix Vinter" his wolf whispered in his head, very unlikely of it in such a moment.
