Chapter 4 - Dead Bodies In The Woods.

"Hello" the person who called said while Paisley continued eating her meal.

" What's wrong" she replied the person with a relaxed and balanced expression. Her hands clasping the fork with the noodles in it, she swallowed in and cleaned her hands after the last bite.

"Just called to tell that your sister seems to be planning something strange in the silver Summit pack. Are you curious?" the voice from the phone asked.

"Why do you care so much about the situation " she asked back at the person.

"Do you need this Intel or not?" he asked again, his voice still as strong and commanding as ever, this made Paisley's mind wander I'm thoughts.

She needed this information to be cautious about her stepsister, after all the distance between them was much, though she couldn't trust the person on the phone, she could at least have little hope on his Intel.

" Fine, spill it out" she said.

" Your dear sister has been having some secret meetings with some outsiders, well the details are quite unknown." he said as he made a pause. "But I can quite guarantee something though" he continued, " Someone's watching you in the Nightshade Nook Pack."

Paisley looked around to make sure mo one heard the last words, she picked up the phone and brought it closer to her ear, "What about him?" she asked.

" Don't worry about that dude, he's on check, just focus on being in stealth mode for a while now, she has some backup so she's quite powerful for now". The person said.

"Ok " she replied and the call ended. She took a breath, not of relief but rather more of anxiety, the thought of being watched from the shadows by a lurking figure couldn't bring her mind to complete ease.

She moved to the kitchen washing the used plate and placing it back in the right position. She moved again to the living room and sat there picking up a book to read to ease her uneasiness.

This guy was always like that, making an unannounced phone call to inform her, she literally had no iota of idea about his identity, only a name which seemed more like a code name than that of a person. The fact that his information was always true left her in confusion sometimes about how it was possible.

Just as she was reading the book, the door was pushed open.

" Who's the intruder sitting in the living room?"

She didn't need to look up, the voice, cocky and endlessly annoying belonged to one person only.

"Came earlier than expected " she leaned back, raising her book lazily, " Thought i smelled arrogance in the air."

Her cousin—Seth, grinned, stepping inside and sitting with the kind ease only him could pull off, je was tall, broad shouldered, with sharp eyes too amused for his own good.

"Arrogance? Please, it's confidence, you could try some sometimes." he winked.

She smirked still holding the book over her face. " I've got plenty, you just make things look more exaggerated ".

He scoffed, crossing his legs on the chair he settled on across from her. "Grandfather gave you the welcome speech didn't he?"

"Something like that.."

"Yeah, that's what I expected. Short, cryptic and just enough warmth to make you forget he's stressed half the time." he said.

She chuckled, shaking her head. This was somewhat what she needed at the moment— a break from the the weight of the past, the tension and the uncertainty of the future. Her cousin had always been like this— a storm of sarcasm and Loyalty, kind of the one person who could cut through her walls without much trial.

"So, heard your staying in?"

Just like that, a flicker of reality crept in, the hovering danger of hidden truth, and a sister who had always hunted her crossed her thoughts.

" Don't expect me to come for s one night visit huh" she replied.

" Come on, I meant staying in...."

She paused there for a second, thinking if staying here for long could get her any good. "Still contemplating about that, not quite profound to jump to certain conclusions isn't it".

Seth chuckled still with his sarcastic look. He came closer stealing the book away from Paisley's hand and giving a satisfied smile in front of her annoyed look.

"Seems like your mind's in a mess, it's profound on your face"

"Did you study psychology or what" Paisley scoffed grabbing the book back while he stood up.

"Na, just my instinct. Anyway have you seen my father? can't find his smell in the house."

"He left after dropping me, your mom's probably in the garden anyway. Besides in bored, you might need to accompany me out later."

" Don't worry, I've got quite a large circle, including the Alpha" he smirked as he went upstairs.

Elden Wood.

A black sport car parked at the entrance of the dense woods. A young man in black tailored suit stepped out from the passenger seat and walked briefly inside.

It was late at night, the cold air filled the dense woods, with the sound of rustling branches and movements of animals heard in a distance.

Inside was a young man holding a touch directing some men scouting the area.

"Aiden" the man called out as he sensed someone entering the perimeter.

"What happened?" Aiden asked as he saw Chester holding the torch.

" The scouts found three dead bodies, the dead are the soldiers of our pack." Chester replied.

"Any idea who did this?" Aiden asked as he went further into the scene.

"Werewolves I'm sure of it, but not from this pack though, the scent and way of killing is not of this pack, probably not any I've ever seen, the only thing left behind is the spilled blood which doesn't match with the dead ones which confirms they were also hurt in the fight".

"What about the CCTV footage of the woods? Besides these are trained soldiers, they can't be killed that easily " Aiden said as he touched the spilled blood on the tree.

" CCTV camera destroyed, as for strength comparison, we can only find the killers to know their motive, besides there's a lead" Chester said bringing out a bright dagger.

"Take it to Caleb, he'll know what to do" Aiden said.

" I'm going in, they killed somebody and it's late, they'll probably need a place to spend a night "

" You're not planning on haunting them down this night are you. What if something goes wrong?"

" I'll be back quick." Aiden said lazily as he shifted into his wolf. He licked his lips in a sinister way and ran into the dark of the forest leaving Ryan and the scouts behind.

"Sir, I think you should see this" a voice called out to Chester. Chester immediately rushed to the place where the person was, pointing his torch at what was before him, he cursed with his eyes beaming in anger.

"The hell!"....
