The room was quiet… except for the furious clatter of Tina's fingers on her phone. *Tap-tap-tap.* *BEEP.* *THUMP.* Tina froze mid-tap.
"Why does the keyboard sound like it's screaming?"
She muttered to herself, one silver strand falling into her icy-blue eyes. She pushed it behind her ear, but it fell back immediately. Typical. Neko Neko, perched atop the headboard, blinked at her. Well… squinted, if a koala could squint. His tiny paws gripped the wood as he pretended his nonexistent tail twitched like a warning flag.
"She's failing already."
He squeaked, voice full of judgment. Tina ignored him.
"No, I'm not failing. I have a master plan."
She peeked toward the bathroom door, just in case Andrew decided to come out for water or some nonsense.
"He can't know. I cannot let him know."
Because of course, he'd notice everything. Andrew always noticed. A soft creak from the other side of the shared bedroom made her freeze.
"Tiny?"
