Xiao Shi was so exasperated by Gu Ruoli's pestering that she finally relented and agreed to her request.
However, she refused to admit that deep down, she yearned for recognition. That was why she always acted as though she despised this Martial Spirit.
With that, Xiao Shi directly extended her hand to Gu Ruoli. She had watched the process yesterday when Gu Ruoli borrowed power, so she knew how it worked.
"Hehe Thank you, Xiao Shi! You're the best"
The moment Xiao Shi agreed, Gu Ruoli lunged forward and gave her a tight hug.
Xiao Shi's cheeks flushed slightly from the sudden embrace. Though she tried several times to push Gu Ruoli away, she ultimately didn't.
After releasing Xiao Shi, Gu Ruoli didn't pay attention to her expression and immediately summoned her Martial Spirit. The Infinite Sigil on the back of her right hand glowed faintly.
With a thought, a transparent card floated out from the sigil and landed in her palm.
Gu Ruoli placed the card on Xiao Shi's hand.
A flash of white light later, Xiao Shi felt as though something had scanned her, but there were no further sensations.
The only change was that the transparent card in her hand had transformed into a white illustrated card bearing the image of the Herrscher of Sentience.
"It worked! Thank you, Xiao Shi! I love you the most!"
Overjoyed, Gu Ruoli hugged Xiao Shi again, then took the card from her hand and stored it back into the sigil.
And so, the sensational headline "Shocking News: Group Leader Harasses Herrscher of Sentience—A Tale of Two Women…" came to an end.
Of course, aside from this incident, all sorts of amusing events were unfolding among the other group members.
For example:
Gabriel took the Slime King to a gaming world to play video games.
Zhongli discussed contract terms with the elderly group of Outcasts.
He Xi, using the Micro-Universe Computer, tirelessly studied Gabriel's feathers to uncover the differences between scientific angels and esoteric angels.
Wu Tong and Kanna indulged in a feast, debating whether the Gourmet Tablecloth or the God of Cooking Tree produced more delicious food.
...
After some time, the group, who had been having too much fun, finally remembered their original purpose for coming to this world.
After bidding each other farewell, they scattered once again to various corners of the world.
However, none of them knew that they only had twelve hours left before they had to leave.
Wu Tong glanced at the group that had stayed behind and asked, "So, what's our next move? Any plans?"
The group exchanged glances, and it was clear from their expressions that no one had any ideas.
Seeing this, Wu Tong, who had originally intended to go all out before leaving, lost his enthusiasm.
"Then let's just wander aimlessly. Wherever we end up is fine."
Sigh…
Whatever. It didn't matter anymore. They might as well go with the flow.
And so, with Wu Tong and the others adopting a carefree attitude, the group continued their leisurely stroll.
This time, however, Wu Tong didn't summon the Nether Soul. Instead, he decided to let the others use the zombies as practice dummies to familiarize themselves with their new powers.
Of course, without the Nether Soul's black mist to conceal their actions, their supernatural abilities inevitably attracted the attention of some ill-intentioned individuals.
"Boss, that group is right ahead."
"Got it. Follow my lead. First, we'll take control of those defenseless young people—they're probably the ones this team is protecting."
"Brilliant, boss! Once we've got them, the rest of the team will have no choice but to obey us."
"Enough talk. Tell the boys to get ready. We move soon."
"Yes, boss!"
...
The deserted streets were filled with an air of decay.
Aside from the occasional wandering zombies, there were no signs of life.
But now, the silence was shattered by a series of explosions.
"First Spirit Ability: Netherworld Blade!"
"Second Spirit Ability: Pale Flame Hand!"
"First Spirit Ability: Earth Thorn Surge!"
...
Gold, green, black, white—
A kaleidoscope of colors lit up the empty streets.
Blades slashed, swords cleaved, bullets flew, and fists struck—all landing on the grotesque zombies charging toward them.
Wu Tong and the others followed behind, watching as the newly empowered individuals vented their energy on the undead.
While Wu Tong's group found the scene rather dull, to everyone else, these people wielding supernatural powers seemed like gods, bringing hope to a hopeless world.
"Let's go."
After clearing the area of zombies, the group prepared to move on.
Then, a minor incident occurred.
Bang!
A gunshot rang out, and a bullet hole appeared at Wu Tong's feet.
A ragged band of several hundred armed wanderers emerged, their guns trained on the group.
A middle-aged man who seemed to be their leader stepped forward, smirking as he eyed the team.
"Don't move a muscle, or I can't guarantee the safety of the people you're protecting."
The people they're protecting?
Wu Tong and the others exchanged glances, their expressions full of disbelief.
Were they being mistaken for helpless civilians under protection?
Suddenly finding the situation amusing, Wu Tong sent a mental message to the others and gave the team leader a look, signaling him not to reveal the truth.
He wanted to see what else these people had in store.
Understanding Wu Tong's signal, the team leader immediately raised his hand, signaling everyone to stand down. Though confused, the team members complied, stopping their attacks.
After all, they didn't believe this ragtag group could pose any real threat to Wu Tong and the others.
Seeing this, the middle-aged man grew even more excited.
His guess had been right—by taking these "ordinary people" hostage, he could force the powerful ones to obey.
With a triumphant grin, he sneered,
"I admit, you're impressive. You've got powers beyond ordinary humans. But so what? In the end, you still have to listen to me."
His expression then twisted into one of manic greed, his eyes burning with desire.
"Tell me—how did you get these powers? Don't lie. I've been watching you. Yesterday, you didn't have these abilities, and today, suddenly, you do."
"If you don't want anything to happen to them, you'd better start talking."
