Chapter 63 - Chapter Sixty-Three: Awkward Fury

INT. KARNEX'S FLAGSHIP – THRONE ROOM

Karnex stood at the center of his command chamber, his claws digging into the steel armrests. He slammed his fist down, screens across the room flickering with Lyra's image as reports of her recovery played.

KARNEX(snarling)So the girl rises again… enough of these games. She will not escape me this time.

From the shadows, a hulking figure stepped forward — a bizarre-looking monster stitched together like mismatched parts. Its body shifted awkwardly, one arm too long, the other too short, its legs almost bending the wrong way.

KARNEXGo. Show them the strength of imbalance. Break their rhythm, shatter their unity.

The monster bowed, voice crackling with distortion.

MONSTERI am Distortrox. Their order will become chaos.

EXT. CITY PLAZA – AFTERNOON

The Nova Rangers arrived just as Distortrox smashed through the plaza. The monster's movements were erratic — stumbling one moment, lunging at impossible speed the next.

RYANAWhat is that thing? It moves like it's broken—

Distortrox suddenly bent backward unnaturally and launched a kick that knocked Jett straight into a fountain.

JETT(spitting water)Okay — broken and annoying!

KAEL(gritting teeth)No. It's throwing us off. Every move is unpredictable. That's its strength.

The battle devolved into chaos — the monster's awkward strikes made it nearly impossible for the Rangers to anticipate attacks. Lyra, still recovering, staggered after blocking a strike.

LYRA(breathing heavy)He's right… it's messing with our rhythm.

Daiki pulled a small device from his belt — the Resonance Amplifier prototype.

DAIKIThen it's time we change the rhythm!

EXT. CITY PLAZA – MID-BATTLE

Daiki planted the Amplifier on the ground. The shard inside pulsed, sending out shockwaves of energy that began to "sync" with the monster's erratic frequency.

Distortrox suddenly stumbled, its jerky movements slowed slightly.

ZAYN(eyes wide)It's working!

But then, the monster twisted its body unnaturally again and slammed a shockwave into the Amplifier, sending sparks flying.

DAIKINo, no, no—! Hold on!

The device whirred, overheated, then stabilized again. The Amplifier pulsed brighter, matching Distortrox's awkward energy and reflecting it back. The monster staggered, clutching its chest as its own chaotic rhythm disrupted itself.

DAIKI(yelling)Now! Strike while it's unstable!

The team rallied, their combined attacks landing clean hits as the Amplifier kept Distortrox off-balance. Lyra dashed forward for the final strike, her blade glowing as she shouted:

LYRAFor Nova!

Her slash, amplified by the Resonance wave, cut through Distortrox — the monster let out a distorted scream before exploding into fragments.

EXT. PLAZA – QUIET AFTERMATH

The Amplifier sparked and shut down, its shard flickering weakly. Daiki quickly grabbed it, holding it close with relief.

DAIKI(panting)…It worked. Not perfect, but it worked.

Kael clapped him on the shoulder, a rare smile breaking through.

KAELYou saved us, Daiki. That invention might be the key against the Sentinels.

Lyra walked up, resting a hand on her brother's shoulder.

LYRASee? Told you we fight smarter — not alone.

Daiki smirked faintly, eyes shining with pride.

DAIKIYeah… but next time, I'll make it even better.

The Rangers shared a brief laugh, unaware that high above, Karnex's eyes burned with fury.

KARNEX(watching from his ship)So the boy's toy can turn my power against me… then I'll simply crush him first.
