Chapter 14: The Hisoka Showdown (Sort Of)

[ ** SYSTEM MESSAGE: USER ADAM RICHTER. NEW OBJECTIVE: ACCUMULATE 20 UNIQUE DEATHS FOR SYSTEM UPGRADE LVL 1. CURRENT PROGRESS: 13/20. FINANCIAL REQUIREMENT: 10,000,000 JENNY. CURRENT JENNY: [CLASSIFIED]. ** ]

The atmosphere in Heavens Arena was electric. The highly anticipated match between Gon and Hisoka was about to begin. For Gon, it was a test of strength and a vital step in his journey. For Adam, it was an exercise in extreme self-preservation and a reminder of the sheer, terrifying power of the man with the murderous clown aesthetic.

" Okay, Adam, this is it. The Hisoka Show. My strategy: survive. Not by fighting, but by becoming a master of invisibility. Or at least, a master of looking like I'm really, really engrossed in a particularly interesting lint ball on the floor. Hisoka is off-limits. Permanently off-limits. Unless I get about ten more upgrades and a death wish that borders on the truly suicidal. "

Adam found a secluded spot in the spectator stands, far from any potential splash damage. He used his 'Zetsu' to minimize his presence, making himself as unnoticeable as possible. He pulled out a small, tattered notebook and pretended to be meticulously taking notes, occasionally muttering to himself. "Ah, yes, note to self: avoid all clowns. Especially the ones who look like they're about to commit a felony with a deck of cards."

He watched Gon's fight with a mixture of awe and terror. Gon, pure and determined, pushing himself to the limits against a truly monstrous opponent. Hisoka, effortlessly dominant, playing with Gon like a cat with a particularly amusing toy. Every time Hisoka moved, every time he unleashed his aura, Adam felt a primal shiver. He tightened his grip on his imaginary pen, his 'Skin Hardening' unconsciously activating.

" Good lord, that Bungee Gum is terrifying. It's like having a superpower based on chewed bubblegum. Who even thinks of that? Probably the same guy who decided to make clowns inherently terrifying. Seriously, the sheer audacity. "

While Gon was busy getting his butt handed to him (in a loving, character-building way, of course), Adam focused on his own path to power and wealth. He had more fights scheduled, and with his Nen skills ('Zetsu', 'Ten', a very weak 'Tiger Bite Fist') combined with his physical abilities, he was becoming a formidable, if quirky, opponent on the 200th floor.

He fought a massive, brute-force enhancer who tried to overwhelm him with raw power. Adam used his 'Enhanced Reflexes' to dodge, his 'Ten' to minimize damage, and his 'Skin Hardening' to tank the blows he couldn't avoid. He chipped away at the opponent, eventually winning by knockout. The prize money for 200-floor victories was substantial.

He faced a clever manipulator who tried to subtly control his movements. Adam, using his 'Zetsu' to hide his intentions and his 'Enhanced Balance' to maintain his footing, surprised the manipulator by disarming him with a quick move, thanks to his 'Basic Knife Proficiency' translating into general close-quarters combat skill. Another victory, more Jenny.

" Money, money, money! It's a rich man's world, and I'm just living in it. Very precariously. But with a lot of Jenny! Soon, System, soon! We'll have enough for that next upgrade! And then I can start planning how to get 'Bungee Gum' without, you know, actually letting Hisoka kill me. Which is probably impossible. But a man can dream. "

Adam meticulously tracked his winnings. Every fight brought him closer to the 10 million Jenny threshold. He was surprisingly good at winning when he wasn't actively trying to die. It was a bizarre dichotomy: a death-seeking combatant who was also a surprisingly effective prize fighter.

with Gon having recovered from his fight and the group preparing to leave Heavens Arena, Adam finally counted his accumulated wealth. The sum was staggering. He had done it. He had exactly 10,000,000 Jenny.

" YES! The money! I'm practically Scrooge McDuck, but with more scars and a strange talent for convincing people to stab me! Now for that sweet, sweet upgrade! And then, the world! Or at least, Yorknew City! "

He hadn't acquired any new skills in this period, but he had solidified his existing ones, gained valuable combat experience, and, most importantly, secured the financial requirements for his System Upgrade. He was at 13/20 unique deaths, just 7 more to go. The next upgrade would make him even more durable. The possibilities were endless. And terrifying. Just how Adam liked it.
