With the financial goal met, Adam's primary focus shifted back to unique deaths. He needed seven more to unlock his Level 1 System Upgrade. Heavens Arena, with its constant flow of Nen users, remained his best hunting ground. He also wanted a specific skill: Gyo. The ability to see aura would be a game-changer, allowing him to truly understand the Nen world that Gon and Killua were immersing themselves in.
" Alright, Adam, you've got the cash. Now you need the kills. Seven more unique deaths, and I'm practically invincible! Well, 'twice invincible' per person. Which is still pretty damn good. And I need 'Gyo'! Seeing Nen? That's like getting X-ray vision for superpowers! Imagine the pranks! The existential dread I can inflict by pointing out people's leaky aura! "
He began fighting more strategically, not just for wins, but for specific types of opponents. He sought out fighters who seemed to rely heavily on aura manipulation, specifically those who were good at sensing or revealing hidden Nen. He used his 'Enhanced Sense of Smell' to identify subtle shifts in their aura, trying to pinpoint individuals who focused on perception.
He faced a middle-aged woman named Saki, who fought with an almost supernatural awareness of her surroundings. She moved not just to dodge, but to anticipate, as if she could see the flow of her opponents' aura. Her eyes, though not overtly glowing, held a piercing quality. This is it, Adam thought. She's got Gyo. Or something similar.
"Madam Saki!" Adam chirped, circling her. "Your awareness is truly exceptional! It's as if you can see beyond the veil of reality! Do you have a third eye? Or is it just a really good pair of contact lenses? Because if it's the contacts, I'd love to know where you got them. My 'Minor Illusion' could really use a visual upgrade."
Saki merely smiled, a knowing glint in her eye. She was not easily provoked by his usual banter. She was too calm, too focused. She moved, her attacks precise, targeting weak points in Adam's 'Ten' defense that he didn't even know existed.
Adam knew he had to let her hit him with her 'seeing' ability. He feigned an opening, moving slightly slower than his 'Enhanced Reflexes' allowed, making it look like a genuine mistake. Saki seized the opportunity, striking with a quick, open-handed blow to his forehead. It wasn't designed to be lethal, but it was delivered with a precise burst of aura, a focused point of Nen that seemed to penetrate his very being.
A strange, dizzying sensation washed over Adam. He didn't feel external pain as much as an internal jolt, like his brain had just been rewired. He stumbled back, his eyes widening. He saw… something. Faint, shimmering outlines around Saki. Wisps of energy. Her aura. It was like a new layer had been added to his vision.
" Whoa. I can… I can see it. Faintly. This is incredible! She just hit me with a spiritual x-ray! Now, for the full effect… "
Before Adam could fully process it, Saki, recognizing his strange reaction, delivered a final, concussive blow to his temple, knocking him out cold. Darkness.

[ ** SYSTEM MESSAGE: ACQUIRED SKILL: [B-RANK NEN SKILL] GYO (ADVANCED). ** ]
" YES! Gyo! And 'Advanced' at that! This is a game-changer! Now I can finally see what Gon and Killua are doing! And Hisoka's aura! This is amazing! Take that, invisible threats! I can see your glowy bits now! "
Adam gasped, sitting up in his inn room. He blinked. The room seemed… sharper. The air, subtly vibrant. He focused, concentrating his aura into his eyes. And there it was. A faint, almost transparent shimmer around the edges of everything. He could see his own faint aura, a soft, pulsating glow. He could see the residual aura in the air from passersby outside. This was truly remarkable. He was at 14/20 unique deaths.
He immediately made his way back to the arena, bursting with excitement. He found Gon and Killua practicing their Nen with Wing. Adam watched them, and for the first time, he could see their aura. Gon's was bright, pure, constantly fluctuating. Killua's was sharp, electric, tightly controlled. Wing's was a vast, calming ocean of power.
"Wing-sensei!" Adam exclaimed, practically bouncing. "I just had another breakthrough! I can… I can see it! The aura! It's like the world just got a new coat of glow-in-the-dark paint!" He then turned to Killua, his eyes twinkling. "And Killua, your aura is quite… prickly. Like a highly caffeinated hedgehog. Very fitting."
Killua stared at him, then at his own hands, then back at Adam, visibly unnerved. "You can… you can see it? Just like that?"
"Indeed!" Adam beamed. "It's all about focus, inner peace, and occasionally getting punched in the head by someone with a really good eye for aura. Very enlightening, literally!"
Wing looked at Adam with an expression of profound curiosity and a hint of concern. "Your abilities truly develop in… unique ways, Adam-kun."
"That's just my charm!" Adam winked. He was now a Nen user who could see aura. He had his first Hatsu, rudimentary control over Ten and Zetsu, and a rapidly growing arsenal of diverse skills. He was also sitting on 10 million Jenny. He was closer than ever to that first system upgrade. Just six more unique deaths. The world of Hunters was about to get a whole lot more chaotic. And Adam Richter was ready to provide the entertainment.
