Kyōraku Callum watched Hinamori Momo's retreating figure.
"I imagine you'll willingly offer your strength to Aizen."
With Barragan's death, peace had returned to the World of the Living.
While Hollow disturbances still existed, they posed little threat to Kyōraku Callum; it was simply a matter of traveling between cities, a task that usually took only a few days.
Urahara Kisuke's research was also showing some progress.
Three months later, Kyōraku Callum returned to the Seireitei and was once again greeted by Kurotsuchi Mayuri's unpleasant expression.
"Spatial stasis!" Kurotsuchi Mayuri exclaimed, his voice tight with barely suppressed anger.
"Kyōraku Callum, you truly are something else!"
"Thank you for the compliment," Kyōraku Callum replied with a slight smile. "The research results?"
Kurotsuchi Mayuri's eyes darted around.
"Recently, a research accident destroyed a significant amount of equipment. Unfortunately, the research data on decaying energy was also lost."
Kyōraku Callum surveyed the surroundings.
Indeed, much of the equipment had been replaced with new models.
Even though he wasn't in the Seireitei, he was aware of certain events. The Research and Development Institute, needing funds to research Hollows' concealed spiritual pressure, had requested a large sum from the First Division, and Kurotsuchi Mayuri had used this opportunity to replace outdated equipment.
Yoruichi Shihōin could easily uncover such details with a brief visit to the Seireitei.
Click! A flash of cold steel gleamed from Kyōraku Callum's hip.
"Kurotsuchi, shall I help you acquire some more equipment?"
"Ahem," Kurotsuchi Mayuri coughed, hastily changing the subject.
"Fortunately, I made backups."
He pulled out a stack of papers from his pocket, densely covered in writing.
Kyōraku Callum took the papers and scanned them. "Deal done. Pleasant collaboration."
He pocketed the papers, intending to examine them later. He didn't worry about their authenticity; he had an expert in the World of the Living.
If not for Urahara Kisuke's ongoing research on Hollowfication, Kyōraku Callum might have given Barragan's bone hand to him. Barragan's decaying energy held significant value for Kyōraku Callum; fundamentally, it was a form of temporal power.
Kyōraku Callum didn't linger long in the Seireitei. The Hollow disturbances in the World of the Living remained unstable, with frequent outbreaks of intense battles in various cities.
After retrieving what he was owed, he used the Senkaimon to return to Karakura Town in the World of the Living.
Urahara Shop. Underground Research Facility.
Upon returning to the Urahara Shop, Kyōraku Callum was immediately pulled aside by Urahara Kisuke.
"Callum," Urahara Kisuke said, his tone excited. "I've found a way to suppress Hollowfication. But I need your help."
Kyōraku Callum, somewhat puzzled, guessed, "Immense spiritual pressure? Or perhaps spatial manipulation?"
Urahara Kisuke calmed himself. "Quincies, Shinigami, Hollows, and humans exist in corresponding dimensions. This is because they occupy equal dimensions. A higher-level power might be able to replace one of these forces. Experiments show that temporal power surpasses them all!"
Hearing Urahara Kisuke's solution, Kyōraku Callum frowned.
"While shikai release is unique, the power of time isn't solely mine. If I recall correctly, forbidden Kidō techniques involve manipulating time."
Urahara Kisuke's excitement remained. "Kidō and Zanpakutō release are fundamentally different. Zanpakutō release involves the power of the soul. Even forbidden Kidō techniques are merely a unique application of spiritual particles. While the effects may seem similar, their nature is vastly different."
Kyōraku Callum understood. Though he didn't use forbidden Kidō, his Kidō skills were on par with Ōetsu Nimaiya. He grasped Urahara Kisuke's point immediately. Zanpakutō release is unique because the Zanpakutō is a manifestation of the Shinigami's soul. Kidō can achieve similar or even identical effects, but the Zanpakutō's power is unique to each Shinigami.
"So, what you mean is…" Kyōraku Callum said, still unsure how to replace Kurosaki Masaki's power with his Zanpakutō's.
The excitement faded from Urahara Kisuke's face, replaced by calm contemplation.
"That's the new challenge. I need a suitable container to seal your temporal power. However, my calculations suggest that even with immense effort and time, we might only be able to seal a negligible amount. Temporal power is simply too advanced."
Urahara Kisuke sighed. "Compared to typical Kidō-type, elemental-type, or direct-attack Zanpakutō, your Shunpo seems to transcend all Zanpakutō."
Kyōraku Callum remained silent, his expression unreadable. Urahara Kisuke's words brought to mind the Time Throne within his Zanpakutō's space.
While he couldn't fully comprehend the Time Throne, he knew ascending the Stairway of Time would become increasingly difficult.
The path to strength wasn't easy. At least, Kyōraku Callum already possessed a passport beyond the Shinigami realm, giving him a head start on other Shinigami.
Urahara Kisuke, oblivious to Kyōraku Callum's thoughts, continued…
