"I've experimented with sealing Kidō, creating simplified Kidō," Urahara Kisuke explained, turning to retrieve several dark, small spheres from a research table.
"Callum, please prepare your defenses."
Kyōraku Callum looked curiously at the strange objects. Urahara Kisuke flicked his fingers, launching three black spheres towards him. Kyōraku Callum lightly tapped his right index finger in the air; a pale blue spiritual energy shield materialized before him.
Bakudō #81, Dankū!
Crimson flames and thick bolts of lightning intertwined, accompanied by a powerful spiritual pressure shockwave, instantly engulfing the spiritual energy shield. Kyōraku Callum frowned, observing the wavering shield, and added another Kidō.
Bakudō #39, Enkōsen!
A new, circular shield appeared before him. After the exploding flames consumed the spiritual energy shield, the raging lightning followed, striking the Enkōsen.
Only when the spiritual pressure was exhausted did it dissipate.
"Instant-cast Kidō, no incantation required," Urahara Kisuke said, a hint of boastfulness in his tone.
"What do you think, Callum?"
Kyōraku Callum frowned, recalling the Kidō's power. "In terms of power, it's comparable to incantation-less Kidō, about a third of its original strength. Consumption seems minimal, requiring only a small amount of spiritual pressure. Overall, it has many advantages."
Urahara Kisuke smiled, pleased with Kyōraku Callum's assessment.
"However," Kyōraku Callum continued, "creating these must be extremely spiritually draining, wouldn't you say?"
Urahara Kisuke's expression shifted slightly. "I didn't expect you to have knowledge in this area, Callum. You're right; creating one Kidō sphere consumes over three times the spiritual pressure of a normal Kidō cast."
He readily admitted the flaw, a pragmatic and humble researcher who never boasted about his creations.
Kyōraku Callum nodded. "Even with triple the consumption, it's still quite good. Mass production would be beneficial for the Seireitei, reducing Shinigami casualties."
Urahara Kisuke shook his head. "The creation method isn't overly difficult. However, these simple materials can only seal Kidō below number forty. Higher-level Kidō would increase consumption tenfold or more! It's not worth the effort."
Kyōraku Callum expressed his regret. "It's a shame." He could clearly identify the Kidō used in the spheres: Hadō #31, Shakkahō ; Hadō #33, Sōkatsui; and Hadō #1, Shō.
The power was moderate, but the drawbacks were obvious.
Below number forty, incantation-less Kidō could only serve to restrain enemies; their use was limited.
"It's alright, Callum," Urahara Kisuke said calmly, unconcerned. It was merely a small experiment in his long research career. "This was just a trial run. I hope you'll cooperate with me further. Once I can seal forbidden Kidō, I'll try sealing Zanpakutō power."
Kyōraku Callum nodded, readily agreeing. He was willing to help; the only cost was a bit of spiritual pressure, something he had in abundance.
"Oh, right," Kyōraku Callum said, remembering something. He pulled out a stack of papers covered in writing. "This is what I got from Kurotsuchi Mayuri. It's research on Barragan's unique decaying energy. See if anything seems amiss. I think it might help your current research."
Urahara Kisuke curiously took the papers and examined them carefully. A smile spread across his face.
"That Kurotsuchi fellow was surprisingly honest this time. The content seems sound. Unfortunately, the research on decaying energy is useless to me. Hollowfication is a soul erosion; while decaying energy involves time, it's merely a derivative. Furthermore, its soul-eroding effect is even stronger than Hollowfication."
Kyōraku Callum handed the papers to Urahara Kisuke. "Research it. Translate the complex terminology into simpler language; it's too technical."
"No problem," Urahara Kisuke replied, resuming his research.
Kyōraku Callum left the underground research facility; the heavy atmosphere wasn't for him. The outside air was far more refreshing.
Time passed, and the World of the Living gradually stabilized.
And Urahara Kisuke's research made leaps and bounds in those years.
"Well then, Callum!"
A cheerful voice echoed through the Urahara Shop, emanating from a loudspeaker bearing a large picture of Urahara Kisuke's face.
"Please come to the underground research facility. This time, we'll succeed!"
