Chapter 40 - Chapter 40: The Guild (IV)

Amongst everyone that I have met, it was also nice to meet Mace Windu. He does end up dying early on in the third movie, Revenge of the Sith. In a pretty bad way too. He gets shot at with Force Lightning by Darth Sidious, only to get sent flying onto the streets of Coruscant, where it's miles and miles below the Jedi Temple and Senate Building. He fell down to his own death with a severed arm. The very same scene that marks a major turning point to Anakin's fall to the dark side, becoming Darth Vader in the process.

Darth Vader plays too much of a pivotal role in many events after the Clone Wars, especially when it comes to Obi-Wan Kenobi. To the point that Obi-Wan himself receives his own series, aptly named Obi-Wan Kenobi where the two clash once again. I don't see myself intervening with Anakin's fall to the dark side. On the contrary, I do see myself changing smaller events related to this. One such event is Mace Windu's death when he gets blasted out of that window.

With the ability to cloak my gunship, I just need to wait for the right moment, swoop downward, secure him, and immediately place Mace Windu inside one of my healing pods. It might not recover him all the way nor would it likely restore his lost arm, but it'll keep him alive and thus securing a powerful ally and potential crew member. If Plo Koon didn't have future campaigns inside the Clone Wars to participate in, I'd have considered inviting him too, but perhaps not until Order 66. We'll see about that.

I'm in the picture now, and with my existence, I'm sure I'll change some events down the line in the grand continuity of things. Albeit small, I did already change one thing, by taking Anakin's spot while heading out with Ahsoka to search for Plo Koon. Anakin was supposed to do that, not me. Since he remained behind with the supply line, he did what he was supposed to do for once, and listened to the Jedi High Council. Because of that, he might be seen in a more favorable light with them now, haha!

That's all in a perfect world, anyways. I'm able to consider such actions because that is how overpowered my guship is. It can go behind enemy lines undetected, and wait for the opportune time to come in and save the day. I know the second mission was driven by Adam, but the Malevolence was a practical use of that. I can see myself doing this more and more, especially once I learn how to manually fly this gunship. That is one of my topmost priorities right now, apart from securing identification.

I don't know if I'll take work from the Republic again, but they left the doors open for me if I do want to continue working there. They have a very, very long three years ahead of them.

But I departed from General Skywalker's fleet nonetheless. My gunship could be seen cruising the stars. I didn't trigger the jump to hyperspace quite just yet. I was just letting everything sink in, as these two missions happened in quick succession. I barely had any room to breathe. I do now, and I could afford to relax.

I made sure to confirm the payment too, and now, I have one million and ninety thousand credits to my name, all in gold ingots. I had that sack next to my bedside inside my Personal Quarters. I don't exactly have a proper inventory space nor online account to store my wealth yet, so I'll need to be careful on how to handle this money until I do.

I let a drawn out sigh, letting my shoulders slump into my seat. Reacting to this, I saw Adam's face appear on the console before me, materializing into existence. I saw a serious look in his eyes.

"If you're going to berate me Adam, might as well get it over with.", I said to him, undisturbed by Adam's look in his eyes.

[Taking that mission was both stupid and reckless. If I wasn't in full control, you could have easily gotten yourself killed out there. I had zero data on that ship. You're lucky that you walked away with what you were tasked to retrieve.] Adam coolly said to me.

"Point taken. But you got the job done, didn't you? With this, we've garnered favor with the Republic. It's going to be a very chaotic time for them, and now we've established a paper trail. If they reach out to you at some point, don't immediately turn down their comms. I'll let you do your magic with the holopad I was given. It shouldn't be hard to integrate it with your system. That way, when we receive an inevitable call from General Skywalker, all you need to do is prompt its display on the control panel. You haven't come across this tech before, so you can think of it as a fun little challenge.", I said, smiling beneath my helmet.

[So you say. We truly are in unknown territory, even though it seems most of it has been claimed by this aforementioned Republic or Confederacy. I've also come to learn the existence of the holonet, which is a huge network of information scattered across these endless stars. It'll take some time to compile any sort of information you're looking for, Samus.] Adam responded.

"We don't need to rush it. You've already received a well-documented star chart of where most things are, courtesy of His Majesty. We can take things one step at a time. There's a few items on my plate for action, but I really need to secure some form of identification. And now, we have both the method and funds to procure that.", I stated.

[Very true. You will have to work your way back up, and to even be a bounty hunter, you need a name. Before we discuss ways on that though, why don't we take things back a step first?], Adam suggested, drawing my interest.

"Oh? How so?", I asked with interest.

[I'm talking about you, obviously. For one, the Power Suit you hold. It is bonded with you on a genetic level, and is essentially hotwired into your brain. You've been going such a roundabout way taking it off every time. While that method does work, you needn't go such lengths to take your suit off. You just need to will it, and it will remove itself. It can also act as a quick escape method, should you ever find your life in danger. Granted, it will be dependent on what type of suit you are currently wearing at the time.] Adam explained. Hearing that, I raised my eyes.

Now that I think about it, that is such a thing with Samus and her Power Suit, huh? It's seen as an extension of her own body. Chozo's technology sure is something, alright. I'm still wondering though, is it a mixture of the Fusion Suit and Power Suit? It has the Power Suit's design, but if it's bonded with me like this already, I might have that Metroid DNA swirling inside.

"So I just need to think about it?", I murmured, recalling what Adam just said to me. My armored fingers remained resting loosely on the control panel before me. I looked down, and squeezed my own hand. Next, my green-lit visor seemed to dim its lighting. A moment passed. Then another.

There weren't any button presses. No mechanical hissing sounds. No audible cue at all. Just the faintest of blue flickers that emanated from my Power Suit along its frames. It had responded to my thoughts, just like Adam stated.

Before I realized it, the Power Suit began to peel away from my body. Its orange plates began to dissolve at a visible pace, quite quick too. It shimmered as each piece on my body vanished one after another. One after another, my body soon became visible. Once the helmet vanished, my golden-blonde hair drifted downward, neatly tied into a bun. I had gotten used to tying it into a single ponytail.

Then, just like that, the Power Suit was gone. I could see my chest and everything, breathing in and out. Surrounded by a tight blue jumpsuit that outlined my curves. Thanks to that, I could lean further back into my seat. I let out another deep breath, settling this feeling. It felt weird, but I could feel that this Power Suit always belonged to me. I felt connected to it. Was this how Jedi felt when they felt connected to the Force?

I'm not sure.

But I think I can get used to this~

Who needs the Force when you can call upon the Power Suit at your beck and call?
