Chapter 92 - Chase Through Rome

Cate returned to her rooms and slept without worrying about anything. In the Vesta hotel, one's safety was assured by the divine right granted by the goddess Vesta. Vesta Hotel had branches all over the world and catered to supernaturals. With the blessing and protection of Vesta, a powerful goddess, all hotel clients were safe as long as they stayed within the hotel. It did not matter what came after them; as long as the supernatural stayed on hotel grounds, they would be safe. This was the reason for the high prices demanded by this hotel.

Cate had paid her fees, and so she had nothing to worry about even though she had just been exposed as the daughter of the mad sorcerers, Ilarion and Smaranda Danescu. Many people wanted to have her head for the sins of her parents, but in Vesta Hotel, they had no option but to keep all this rage and desire bottled up since any attempt would fail and they would then have to face the wrath of an enraged goddess. No one wanted this, and so Cate had a good night's sleep.

"Master Galeazzo Staranse has invited you to a boxing match within the city," a servant told Cate while handing over an invitation letter. The red letter gave off a faint smell of blood and had a symbol of the omega. Cate took the letter and continued eating her breakfast. She had been doing this even though food smelled like death to her ever since she transformed into whatever she was now. She pretended to eat and enjoy food so as to not give herself away as a supernatural beast or something like that.

Cate preferred to keep this information to herself. To this date, the only person who knew about her situation was Ion. Cate was very sure of his loyalty, and she needed him to care for the vampire she had in her dungeons. Cate ate just enough to appear normal before she left the hotel. The moment she stepped onto the street, she felt a million eyes on her back. Her car, a red Ferrari F430. Cate entered the car without caring about all the bloodlust being sent her way. Without caring about traffic laws, she sped through the streets of Rome.

"She thinks she can outrun her sins," a dark figure grumbled in the darkness as they gave chase. They were not the only ones. There were ten people, all of whom gave chase with a clear intent. Some people moved in the shadows, others ran after the car, and some flew through the sky. These supernaturals were very fast, and they easily kept up with the Ferrari F430 that was moving at 196 mph. Cate sensed the many figures giving chase, and she finally began taking the matter more seriously.

Some of these figures were powerful supernatural beasts, and others were supreme magicians. Cate herself was only a Supreme Sorcerer, and even though she was at the peak of this realm of magical understanding, she could not possibly face off against five supreme magicians plus more than a few supernatural beasts. In the shadows, she sensed a powerful vampire that was at least a few thousand years old. The older a vampire grew, the more their power settled into their blood, making them more dangerous and harder to kill.

With time, vampires also learn new magic that makes them truly terrible beings to make enemies of. A vampire that was more than one thousand years old was as powerful as a Supreme Magician. From the power Cate sensed in the shadows next to her car, this vampire was at least three thousand years old, making it far more powerful than any supreme magician. "Since when did I have such an enemy? I have attacked, killed, and eaten many vampires over the past few years, but I made sure that I only attacked weak vampires that had no connection to any of the powerful vampire clans. None of the vampires I ate have even reached five centuries of age."

Cate began wondering about the reason for this vampire coming after her. She shook her head when she realized that she had done far too many things and killed far too many people. It was more than plausible that she managed to piss off this ancient vampire during one of her many escapades... On top of this, there were her parents' crimes to consider. The two had been dark sorcerers who killed and robbed countless powerful beings over the course of their lives. Their crimes were too numerous to keep track of.

Cate channeled her magic into the car, and suddenly, its speed increased to 200 mph. The car was on the verge of breaking apart, so Cate cast a Void Separation spell, removing all air resistance in front of the car, allowing its speed to skyrocket to Mach 1. She left many of the supernatural in the dust, but the vampire and three others were still hot on her tail. When the car exceeded 8,500 RPM, Cate began forcing the pistons to stay in place with magic, but she realized that this expenditure was not sustainable once the car hit Mach 1 and it exceeded 20,000 RPM.

Cate cast an augmentation spell onto the car parts, from the smallest bolt to the car body, making them as durable as graphene. Cate smiled at this. She was shooting through the streets at such speed that most people only heard the sound of her engine. When she was done fixing the car, only the vampire was left on her heels. Wooooohhh, she began laughing with excitement at all this. "When was the last time I did something like this?" she thought. The boxing match she was invited to was outside the city, and so she left the city in a few minutes.

On the wider roads, she had even more freedom to do as she pleased. She no longer had to use magic to pass through people and buildings to avoid killing them. She just let the car shoot over the roads like a bullet that could not be stopped. Boooom, something suddenly rammed into the car, sending it flying through the sky as it fell apart. Pieces of metal flew in all directions, shredding trees and rocks into dust. Cate was not spared from this carnage. The only thing she saw of her attacker was their muscular body covered in grey fur.
