Chapter 118 - Chapter 120: Curriculum Arrangement, A World Where Only Rudeus Suffers is Achieved

In the classroom, three small heads—one red, one white, and one brown—were huddled together, looking at the 'class schedule' on the desk.

Morning:

Swordsmanship — Ghislaine

Afternoon:

Break

Evening:

Etiquette — Edna

This was the schedule from before today. Now, some new names had been added next to it.

New Additions:

Attack Magic — Rudeus

Water God Style Swordsmanship — Allen

Healing Magic — Sylphiette

Arithmetic — TBD

Reading & Writing — TBD

History — TBD

Edna stood to the side, looking gently at Allen.

He was currently observing the 'grand spectacle' at the desk—Eris was repeatedly drawing an arrow from Rudeus's name to Sylphiette's name, only for Rudeus to snatch the pen back and rewrite his own name. This cycle continued over and over.

In this heated battle, the young lady's patience was wearing thin.

You could tell from her twitching eyebrows, clenched fists, foot tapping impatiently on the floor, and the creaking sound of the pen in her hand.

But Rudeus, in the heat of the moment, was completely oblivious, his face practically screaming 'death wish.'

"There are too many new tutors now. I'm worried about whether we can arrange the daily lessons properly. It wouldn't be appropriate to cram all the lessons into the afternoon. Moreover, the young master mentioned yesterday that although you are tutors, considering you are all still young, I will also need to be your etiquette teacher... Um, are you listening to me?"

"I am. I'm just worried someone is about to get beaten to death."

"?"

"It's nothing. Please continue."

"So, strictly speaking, the only 'full-time' teachers are myself and Ghislaine. Therefore, I need you to take the lead in rearranging the schedule. At the very least, everyone needs to be present for the etiquette lessons."

Allen was stunned for a moment and glanced at the expressionless Ghislaine next to Edna.

Although she was standing next to Allen and Edna, her gaze was fixed with great interest on Eris's hand. Her expression was one of intense concentration, as if she was trying to predict when the young lady would 'strike.'

Though not intentionally a troublemaker, in some ways, she was even more chaotic. A troublemaker just wants to see chaos; she wanted to see Rudeus die—no, she wanted to see how much Eris's swordsmanship had improved.

Allen blinked, retracted his gaze, and looked at Edna.

"One."

"?"

"Ghislaine needs to join the reading and writing class, at least as a student. Hmm... she needs to take arithmetic too. So, strictly speaking, you are the only teacher here."

Edna was taken aback and glanced at Ghislaine, who was twice her size. The latter, hearing this, also looked stunned and turned to face them, only to hear Edna's 'fully agreeing' voice.

"That makes sense."

As she finished speaking, Allen caught Eris's already raised fist with one hand, and with the other, he casually pulled over a chair. He first gestured for Edna to sit opposite the desk, then sat down himself. He spread the paper out in front of him and studied it, stroking his chin.

Seeing this, Rudeus was about to sit down on Allen's right, but Eris changed her fist into a claw and snatched the spot away.

"You!"

He looked at Eris, who had firmly taken the chair and was now raising an eyebrow at him.

"What?! You got a problem with that?"

Rudeus wanted to retort, but he suddenly remembered he was at the Boreas estate, and she was the 'young lady' of the Boreas family, while he was a hired tutor—and the only one the young lady didn't particularly like.

If he got kicked out, he would be all alone on his way back to the village, and Paul would definitely laugh at him...

Even though Allen probably wouldn't let that happen...

But yesterday, Allen's reaction seemed to be one of wanting to avoid this 'family' at all costs, so it's better not to cause him any trouble...

"...You did well."

Rudeus pouted and turned to sit on Allen's other side.

However, he was then gently told, "Sorry, Rudy," by Sylphie, and, along with his chair, was 'pushed' to the other side of the table, 'forced' to sit with Edna.

It was effortless because she used a blast of air magic.

Rudeus blinked, looking blankly at Sylphie.

She smiled back, a little embarrassed.

"Sorry, Rudy. I wanted to sit here. Is that okay?"

Rudeus subconsciously nodded.

He wasn't stunned because Sylphie had pushed him away; after all, she had been sticking close to Allen for a long time now.

He was stunned because... in just one night, a 'certain' change seemed to have occurred in Sylphie.

Previously, her eyes were always on Allen, but when he looked at her, unless it was for something important, her ears would usually twitch, and she would choose to avoid his gaze.

And when she made a request, if it was a 'negotiation' with Rudeus alone, she would act like a normal person. But as soon as Allen was involved, she would become unable to express her thoughts frankly. This was especially true after Allen brought her to Roa, where her hesitant body language often spoke louder than her words.

And now?

Whether it was the beast-girls lining up at breakfast or the current discussion about the schedule, Sylphie's eyes were focused on the task at hand. She was no longer 'clinging' to Allen as she usually did.

As he was thinking, the different voices of the three people and the soft scratching of a pen on paper drifted over from the other side of the table.

Allen was writing and speaking at the same time, "Hmm, first, let's fix the time for the etiquette class that everyone has to attend. Let's tentatively set it for every evening. Swordsmanship and magic are skills that need daily practice, so we'll put them in the afternoon, one before and one after afternoon tea. As for the morning, when we're most alert, we'll divide it into two periods for reading & writing and arithmetic."

"What! I don't want to learn reading and writing and arithmetic!" Eris immediately protested, her eyebrows raised.

"Overruled," Allen said without looking up.

"Huh?"

"Reading, writing, and arithmetic are very necessary, Eris. Why don't you try learning them first? You're so amazing, Eris, you can definitely do it. Just give it a try, okay?" Sylphie turned to Eris and said gently.

"Alright then!" Eris, praised and her pride satisfied, immediately crossed her arms, nodded, and agreed to Sylphie's suggestion.

"But then there's no time for history. How about we put both history and etiquette in the evening? Etiquette for two days, and history for one day, alternating like that," Allen suggested an adjustment.

"In that case... what about the salary..." Edna's voice trailed off.

"...I can give my portion of the salary to you, Teacher Edna. After all, it's because of our arrival that your class time has been taken up... And two gold coins are too much for me anyway, I don't need it..." Sylphie looked up at Edna seriously.

"No need. As far as I know, the salary is monthly. Missing a few classes won't affect it," Allen said without looking up.

"I see."

Rudeus blinked, realizing exactly what had changed about Sylphie.

Whether it was the beast-girls standing in a line before them this morning, Eris's 'nitpicking' behavior now, or her response to Edna's concern about her salary...

It was completely different from before, when she would let Allen take the lead and wait for him to solve everything.

She was now 'responding' to each situation.

She was trying to solve Allen's potential 'troubles' in advance.

So... it wasn't just him who noticed that Allen was 'troubled' yesterday. And that realization, after one night, had also had some effect on Sylphie, leading to her current actions...

Thud. The sound of a pen being put down interrupted Rudeus's thoughts.

He blinked. In his line of sight, Allen seemed to have finished writing the new 'schedule.'

He pushed the schedule out for everyone to see.

Rudeus shook his head, clearing his thoughts, and looked at the schedule on the desk.

His face immediately stiffened.

Morning

Arithmetic — Rudeus

Reading & Writing — Rudeus

Afternoon

Magic — Rudeus/Sylphie

Swordsmanship — Ghislaine/Allen

Evening

Etiquette — Edna

History — Rudeus

He stared blankly at his name next to arithmetic, reading & writing, and history, then looked up at Allen in disbelief.

He found that Allen was looking at the different expressions on Ghislaine's and Eris's faces, a strange smile on his own.

Teaching the illiterates from the Sword Sanctum reading, writing, and arithmetic?

If Roxy were here, this job would definitely be hers.

But Roxy wasn't here.

So, this challenging task had to be passed on to his good brother.

It was only logical.
