Chapter 40 - Louisa is turning

She unlocked the door and stepped in.

Her eyes landed on the cat, still curled up in the box and breathing evenly.

Does it take this long for animals to mutate or what? she wondered.

She looked to the couch and discovered Louisa was no longer there.

"Louisa?" she called, shouting in the direction of the bathroom.

No response.

"Louisa!" she called again, her voice louder and sharper this time. Yet, she was met with silence.

Sienna's chest tightened, and she immediately started looking for her.

It wasn't possible for Louisa to have left since the door was still locked, so she had to be somewhere inside this room.

Yet, after scanning every corner like she was searching for a needle, Sienna still couldn't find her.

"Louisa!"

Suddenly, she thought of something, and her eyes snapped in that direction.

The balcony.

Its doors were open, thin curtains fluttering in the breeze.

Her feet carried her across the room as she stepped out, the cold air welcoming her.
