Chapter 393: Chasing Golden Lion
Location: A shore of Whole Cake Island.
No—now it couldn't be called a shore anymore. Because this island now floated in the sky. The sea—dimmed beneath the night sky—lay hundreds or thousands of meters below the island.
So the island's edge was absolutely no longer a shore.
Brett stood here. Behind him stood the just-arrived Katakuri.
"Quite terrifying."
Brett gazed downward. "If this island fell, probably no one could withstand such terrible force."
Yes—how much did an island weigh?
An absolutely unimaginable terrifying weight for ordinary people. Add gravitational acceleration—this island had become a destructive weapon hanging in the sky. Smashing another island wouldn't be difficult. Even destroying massive nations like Alabasta or Wano probably wouldn't be hard.
Just needed to lift this island a bit higher.
"No wonder you gave him the stone."
Brett said.
"The family nearly faced total annihilation."
Katakuri sighed somewhat dejectedly. "Golden Lion—that guy possesses terrible power to destroy everything."
Earlier, Golden Lion had lifted this island into the sky, declaring that unless Katakuri gave him the stone, he'd drop the island, directly burying all the Charlotte Family in the sea.
With no choice, Katakuri could only compromise.
If only him—naturally he'd fear nothing. But the problem was many siblings remained on the island.
Brett nodded in complete agreement.
In Avengers: Age of Ultron, didn't Ultron plan to lift a city into the sky then drop it to destroy the world?
Golden Lion could easily accomplish such things.
Though his direct combat ability wasn't particularly strong, honestly—the Float-Float Fruit's destructive power far exceeded even Whitebeard-san's Tremor-Tremor Fruit.
Ancient Weapons' deterrence probably amounted to just this much.
So Brett couldn't understand—what was Golden Lion planning by hiding away researching ferocious beasts for over a decade?
With that free time, wouldn't bringing several islands to smash Mariejois be far stronger?
"Let me get you down first."
Brett said.
He leaped downward, transforming into a massive fire dragon, releasing dense clouds that slowly wrapped around this entire island's edges.
Objects touched by Golden Lion lost gravity, but mass remained unchanged. So moving this island still cost Brett considerable effort.
After placing the island in its original position, he had Katakuri use his awakening to melt seafloor rock, reconnecting the island with underlying strata.
Then Brett departed.
He would chase Golden Lion.
Bullying his friend then trying to escape? Where in the world was something that cheap?
Moreover, that guy was currently heading to bully Brett's next friend.
"Remember to keep it secret."
Brett transformed into dragon-man form, releasing flame clouds beneath his feet. His entire body blazed with lightning. Standing on clouds, he rose into the air. In a blink he'd vanished into the sky like light.
The secret he mentioned—using flame clouds to return this island to the sea.
Few in the entire world could accomplish such things. Investigated deeply, it could easily expose his connection with Katakuri.
Naturally couldn't expose it so easily. He was counting on finding opportunities for Katakuri to give the Government a huge surprise.
Fortunately this was Totto Land. Fortunately this was Whole Cake Island. Katakuri held absolute control over this nation and island.
"Should be able to catch up, right?"
Watching Brett vanish at the horizon's edge, Katakuri muttered to himself.
After taking the Road Poneglyph here, Golden Lion had immediately headed to Wano.
Katakuri was very certain of this. Because that old bastard had declared when leaving: "Next I'll go teach Kaido's foolish daughter a lesson."
No reason it wouldn't be Wano.
As for whether Brett and Golden Lion might miss each other en route—probably not.
To move freely in the New World naturally required compasses.
Log Poses were impossible. Golden Lion had no reason to travel island by island. So naturally he used Eternal Poses.
Using the same compass to fly through the sky from the same starting point to the same destination—no reason their routes would diverge midway, right?
Brett thought the same.
While flying forward, he constantly held the Eternal Pose confirming direction, ensuring no deviation.
This way, as long as Golden Lion-senpai did the same thing midway—he'd definitely catch up. After all, his own speed far exceeded Golden Lion's. Brett felt very confident about this.
Even though Katakuri had contacted him only after Golden Lion left, and even though reaching Totto Land had taken some time.
But even if he didn't catch up—no matter. They'd eventually meet at Wano anyway.
His speed was indeed lightning-fast. The sea surface below and clouds beside rapidly retreated backward.
Brett roughly calculated—the distance to Wano probably wasn't far now.
Looking at it this way, Golden Lion-senpai's flight speed remained quite impressive.
Perhaps he'd truly have to battle him at Wano. Just as Brett thought this, he suddenly raised his head.
His released Observation Haki sensed something.
That was quite a powerful presence.
His thoughts filled with smugness and anticipation.
Probably smug about his actions at Whole Cake Island earlier, also anticipating upcoming actions at Wano.
Brett's lips curved.
Electric light further blazed on his legs. His body thundered forward. Like teleporting, he continuously flashed forward through the sky.
Just a few breaths later, that shadow floating forward in the sky ahead became clearly visible.
Even more clearly visible—the massive red stone beside that figure.
"Caught you."
Brett chuckled softly.
He slowed his speed, letting the sound from his flight reach that veteran ahead faster than his body.
"Golden Lion-senpai, please wait!"
Brett laughed loudly.
"What?"
Golden Lion-senpai—whose Observation Haki barely worked anymore—turned around in shock.
Only now did he notice the pursuing Brett.
"You are—"
Golden Lion's eyes widened. "Fish-Man Brett!"
Oh, seems he'd indeed gained some fame.
Brett thought this.
