Leslie's cheeks were still bright red, like she'd been caught doing something she wasn't meant to do. The silence between the friends in the midst of the sea of celebration by the other students put pressure on her.
"Henry and I started to date a while ago, okay!" she shouted out in frustration. "But… like… we just wanted to keep it a secret until we were certain that... you know... wanted to keep seeing each other."
The table went silent for a second, and then it exploded.
"What?!" Emma leaned forward so fast her chair scraped. "Since when?"
Henry looked like he wanted to melt into the floor. He rubbed the back of his neck and mumbled, "I guess... after the beach day? Well, we hung out with friends mainly..."
Hani blinked at them, trying to connect the dots in her head. She remembered the few times he had seen Henry and Leslie together, but never quite found out. She was shocked to discover how oblivious she had been herself.
