Chapter 23 - Chapter 23 Werewolf

The three entered the street, which was slightly dim under the illumination of kerosene lamps.

The night was hazy, and the crimson Moon cast long shadows on the ground.

Xia Ai'er was no longer bickering with Alice at this point.

Alice also quieted down, only occasionally flaring her nostrils slightly.

Martin followed behind the two of them; if it weren't for the distant lights of the tavern still visible, he would have almost been scared by the sudden silence.

The road remained quiet until they were almost near the tavern, with nothing happening, and only then did Martin's hanging heart finally settle.

"Martin, go inside and order something to eat."

Xia Ai'er instructed his personal male servant.

"Yes, Young Master."

Martin obeyed; he was about to enter the tavern, but seeing that neither Xia Ai'er nor Alice had any intention of going in, he stopped.

Xia Ai'er and Alice exchanged glances, "Go take a look?"

Alice turned and walked into an alley nearby. Xia Ai'er followed her in. Martin, frozen in place, his face alternating between green and white, still followed behind the two.

The environment in the Bridge District was very poor; even at night, one could hear the mechanical hum from the factories and smell the stench of industrial wastewater permeating the air.

However, amidst this foul odor, a faint, fishy smell could also be detected—the smell of blood.

Xia Ai'er pulled Alice, who was in front of him. He made a gesture of embracing the Sun, and Alice understood, clasping her hands together in a prayer pose, illuminating the Darkness ahead with golden light.

A Monster covered in black fur and stained with blood had already crept close to the three of them.

Suddenly deprived of the protection of Darkness and illuminated by the golden light, it covered its eyes in pain, about to let out a roar of shock and anger.

"Shut up."

Xia Ai'er raised the birch wood cane in his hand and inserted the tip of the cane into the opponent's open mouth, giving it a thorough nucleic acid test.

This stifled the Werewolf's roar, causing it to let out a painful whimper.

"Go to hell!"

Alice had already conjured a golden, illusory flame with her hands. The Light of Radiance landed on the black-furred Werewolf, immediately burning fiercely.

Xia Ai'er pulled back his cane. He casually picked up a discarded beer bottle from the ground nearby and delivered a combo strike to the head.

Bang!

The Werewolf, burning with golden flames, fell to the ground, trembled twice, and then became still.

"Young Master!"

Martin, who had just recovered from the blinding light, hadn't even had time to be terrified before it was all over.

"A Werewolf, that's it?"

Xia Ai'er pointed to the revolver Martin had frantically pulled out, aiming it at the corpse on the ground, and said:

"We didn't even draw our guns."

"There really are Werewolves in this world?!"

"By the Goddess, we actually hunted a Werewolf…"

Martin, also a young man, was excited now. Hunting a Werewolf, that sounded much more impressive than hunting a few rabbits or foxes.

"Werewolves shouldn't be this weak."

"I heard from the sisters at the church that these Werewolves have the ability to create subordinates using wolf venom. People infected with wolf venom turn into Monsters similar to Werewolves, and the lives of such Monsters are usually very short."

Alice frowned. She didn't believe she had so easily taken down a Sequence 7 Werewolf. If it were that simple, the guys from the Tribunal would have long since been unnecessary.

"So, if what you say is true, then wherever Monsters similar to Werewolves appear, true Werewolves will also appear?"

"Then let's go back to sleep."

"It's a bit late now; even the moonlight isn't that bright anymore."

Xia Ai'er glanced at the dark red bloodstain on the end of his cane. If he were to stab someone with this, would the target be infected with wolf venom?

"Yes, we should hurry and leave."

After hearing their speculation, Martin's recently kindled excitement instantly vanished. Anyway, he had already killed a Monster that looked like a Werewolf today, so it was better to hurry back now.

When did the crimson moonlight begin to dim?

Using the light from the still burning golden flames, he subconsciously looked up and saw a black-furred Werewolf, using its sharp, long claws to embed itself in the wall, preparing to jump down from a nearby rooftop.

The Monster's cold, eerie green eyes were particularly chilling in the Darkness. Martin shivered in fright, a layer of cold sweat breaking out on his back.

Whoosh!

Like the sound of wind.

The Werewolf unleashed its strength, stomping hard on the wall, and pounced from mid-air towards Xia Ai'er and the two others.

Martin, in his panic, emptied his revolver.

But the opponent's movement speed was too fast, and Martin, who had no time to aim, naturally couldn't hit it. All the bullets struck the nearby wall.

Bang!

Xia Ai'er raised his custom large-caliber revolver, cocked the hammer, causing the cylinder to rotate, and pulled the trigger.

The sound of metal clashing rang out.

The Werewolf in mid-air blocked the bullet with its sharp claws, capable of tearing ordinary steel plates, and its previously swift pouncing motion was also affected.

"Mid-air suspension?"

Xia Ai'er saw this Sequence 7 Werewolf underestimate the three of them so much, and he smiled, firing all five remaining bullets.

He heard that Werewolves had good defense and recovery abilities?

He slightly adjusted his aim, targeting the lower body.

Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!

Roar!

Amidst a low growl suppressing its anger, the Werewolf gave up on quickly ambushing the three and chose to defend its vital points.

If only this damn bastard hadn't aimed at such crucial areas...

He would tear this bastard alive!

The Werewolf wanted to remember that guy's face, but what appeared in its vision was a sudden burst of holy light.

Bang!

The last bullet, hidden within the golden holy light and imbued with a sacred aura, exploded in a spatter of blood on the Werewolf's arm.

After firing all his bullets, Xia Ai'er twirled his gun. He was about to reload when he was grabbed and quickly pulled towards the other end of the street.

Alice didn't even look at the Werewolf, whose face was smeared with the holy light she had summoned. She pulled Xia Ai'er and a somewhat bewildered Martin, and quickly fled towards the main street.

"Aren't we going to keep fighting?"

Xia Ai'er was being dragged by Alice. He gently broke free, reloading his gun while running, and didn't forget to glance back at the Werewolf climbing up from the ground.

"That's a Werewolf; how are we supposed to fight it?"

"Rely on my spells? Or rely on your few bullets?"

Alice firmly stuck to the principle of fleeing first; she knew very well that once they were engaged in close combat by the Werewolf, they would all be in trouble.

"Martin, your aim isn't that bad, is it?"

Xia Ai'er didn't insist either. He turned back, aimed at the Werewolf trying to catch up, and fired again.

Xiao Meinade's hunting experience, coupled with the Secrets Supplicant's sensitivity to the power of Darkness and his extremely high mental strength, meant his aim was excellent.
