Chapter 106 - Bar Chat

"I think,"

Lana said, pursing her lips seriously, "he's a hero. Although his actions break the law, in Gotham City's broken legal system, only the logic of violence can stop crime."

Chloe stopped stirring her coffee, the girl also giving her own thoughts: "The masked hero's actions will undoubtedly attract more people who want to change this city to join him. It's inspiring."

In the eyes of the two girls, Batman's actions were very cool and very great. After all, not anyone had the courage to prepare to fight against the evil of an entire city.

"Clark, what do you think?" Lana asked, seeing Clark's absent-minded expression, dissatisfied.

"Me? I think, very, very cool." Clark stammered, actually he had also wanted to use these powers to change the world, but the reality was that he didn't even have the courage to face a single bully.

However, the young man's dream had not yet begun before it was suppressed by his foster parents, Clark now only envied the masked man.

"By the way, Kino."

Seeing the topic open up, Lana glanced at Chloe, planning to help her friend out: "Do you have time tomorrow?"

"I'm planning to hold a horse racing competition at my place."

Lana's aunt was also a well-known wealthy person in town, and her family ran a horse racing breeding base with considerable profits.

"Too bad."

Kino shrugged and looked at Lana, saying, "I'll be going back to Metropolis in a while."

"My father was injured and unconscious, and someone must manage the company headquarters, so I can't stay long this time either."

Hearing Kino's words, a hint of helplessness flashed in Lana's eyes. Looking at the absent-minded Chloe, she could only feel regret. She had already tried her best, but Kino really didn't have time.

"Let's get together again next time if we have the chance."

Compared to Gotham City's grime and chaos, Metropolis boasted a level of cleanliness and safety that put an Amazonian trench between the two cities.

In the residential district on the east side of Metropolis, a shop was crammed with shelves overflowing with bizarre items.

There was a shriveled monkey's paw, unknown twisted tentacles, and a grey crucible, all haphazardly displayed.

Scattered books and papers lay strewn across the table.

"Hmm hmm~"

A cheerful singing voice echoed from the nearby bathroom.

"Click."

As the door opened, a pair of straight, shapely, and perfectly round long legs stepped out, heading towards a towel.

Water droplets slid down smooth skin, dampening the polished mahogany floor.

A pristine white towel wiped across the face, tousling long hair.

The owner of the long legs approached the mirror.

Below a high, straight nose was a delicate, alluring pair of moist, red lips, and white dice earrings dangled playfully from small, nimble ears.

A pair of beautiful, large eyes seemed to contain magnificent stars. The purple irises looked extraordinary, reflecting the flawless, perfectly sculpted figure in the mirror.

The girl placed her hands on her hips and pouted, "Magician Zatanna, ready to go!"

She puffed out her chest, which wasn't particularly large, and then sighed, deflating like a popped balloon.

She pulled on a pale blue sweater; the autumn weather could easily lead to a cold if one wasn't careful. She then added black stockings and leggings. Finally, she donned the magician's classic circular top hat, commonly seen in circus performances. A charming girl, radiating three parts mystery and six parts playfulness, stood prettily before the mirror.

The sound of black high heels clicking on the floor echoed as the girl settled back at the table, picking up a difficult-to-understand magic book and studying it intently.

Zatanna Zatara, the only daughter of a magical family, had made finding her missing father her goal ever since she witnessed his disappearance as a child.

"So difficult," she muttered.

Zatanna recited the tongue-twisting magic spells, feeling a bit restless. Her large, purple eyes glanced over the picture frame on the table. Pubfuture Ads Inside was a photo of a blond-haired little boy and a black-haired little girl.

In the photo, the girl was smiling, her hands around the boy's neck.

"I wonder what Mr. Kino is doing?"

Zatanna leaned back in her chair and sighed.

Just then, there was a knock at the door.

"Who is it, this late?"

Zatanna glanced at the alarm clock on the table. It was already midnight. Who would come to visit so late?

"Semiteht!"

The girl murmured softly, and as her words fell, the originally solid wooden door suddenly became illusory, as if it had disappeared from the sky.

Zatanna saw the figure standing outside the door.

A tall physique paired with a black trench coat, carrying a case of pure beer in his hand, and his beautiful golden hair gently brushed by the wind.

"Kino!?"

Zatanna pushed the door open with incredible speed, her purple eyes filled with surprise, her small hands rubbing together, a silly smile on her face: "Why did you come?"

"I remember, weren't you in Gotham City?"

Kino tossed the girl the beer with practiced ease, then walked into the room and took off his coat.

"Something came up at home."

"Oh? Is everything alright?"

"It's fine."

Kino sat down in a chair, gesturing for Zatanna to join him for a drink.

Their first meeting went back to the year they cloned Clark.

After his family discovered his abnormality, Letitia took Kino to numerous masters of the mystic arts.

One of them was Giovanni Zatara, Zatanna's father.

Giovanni is a rather skilled magician, and he often took on jobs like exorcising demons and spirits.

Kino got to know Zatanna around that time, and the two became good friends, with a very close relationship.

"Clink!"

The glasses clinked as they drank.

The cold liquor entered her stomach, and Zatanna let out a satisfied sigh.

"Any news on Uncle Giovanni?"

Kino poured the girl another drink.

"Haven't found him yet."

Zatanna's eyes flickered with a touch of sadness.

Her father had disappeared six years ago, vanishing suddenly when she was thirteen.

In the years since, besides managing the exorcism business and magic troupe her father had left behind, Zatanna had spent her time searching for the truth behind Giovanni's disappearance.

The fact that a powerful magician could simply vanish without a trace had kept the girl awake at night.

The atmosphere between them grew silent for a moment.

"Ding-dong~"

Another doorbell ring broke the silence.

"I'll get it."

Zatanna set down her glass and swayed her slender waist as she walked towards the door.

"Click."

The door opened. A middle-aged, blonde woman stood outside, her face etched with terror. Her pale lips and frightened eyes were unsettling in the darkness. She croaked, "Excuse me, is this the Zatanna Mystery Parlour?"
