Chapter 105 - Lex's Commission

Clark still left the ward. After all, he was the only one in the room who wasn't a Luthor, so it was quite awkward to stay there. He decided to make a quick exit.

Before leaving, Gino stopped Clark and asked him to find Chloe and Lana so they could all go to the bar in town and hang out.

That's how friendships worked. Talking and seeing each other often deepened the bond. If you didn't talk or see each other, well, it was no different than being strangers.

Clark agreed and left the ward.

After the big guy left, Gino plopped down on the sofa on the other side, looking at Lex with a playful expression. "What happened? You look so beat up? How are your injuries?"

Lex sighed. He lowered his right hand, which had been covering his eyes. There was a tiny cut on his eyelid, which was covered with a Band-Aid.

"Here, take this."

Gino tossed Lex a small vial containing Amber Gold.

"Found it in Gotham?"

Lex caught the small bottle. As a rigorous scientist, he naturally knew this thing looked extraordinary.

He drank the colorless, odorless Amber Gold in the bottle in one gulp. Soon, a numb tingling sensation came from his eyelids. Lex reached out and touched them, finding that the previous wound had already disappeared.

"Possesses a certain degree of self-healing ability."

Lex gave his judgment, his eyes flashing, "How much of this stuff do you have left?"

His scientific curiosity was piqued; Lex couldn't wait to get to the underground base in the factory to experiment.

"Not in a hurry."

Gino glanced at Lionel, who was lying quietly on the bed.

Although the other person didn't move, his slightly rapid breathing betrayed him.

Lionel was already awake, and for some unknown reason, he hadn't spoken, instead eavesdropping on the conversation between Lex and himself.

"What did the doctor say about his injuries?"

Gino pointed at Lionel, who was lying in the hospital bed.

Lex sneered and tossed a medical report to Gino.

"The hurricane blinded him; he's now blind."

Gino raised an eyebrow and chuckled, "Wow, what bad news. Our King Arthur has lost his sight."

"That's not the worst of it." Lex rubbed his temples and said, "The news of Lionel's injury will also affect our company in Metropolis, and the stock price might be affected."

"So?"

"So I want you to go to Metropolis and look after the company for me."

"At the very least, stabilize the company's stock price so it doesn't collapse. Otherwise, it will attract other competitors to buy at a low price, which would be a disaster for the company."

Lex slowly stood up, walked to the window, and looked at the town after the hurricane: "But, there's no need to worry too much. A research project on my side is progressing smoothly, and it won't be long before we can turn the situation around."

The research project Lex was referring to was the extraction of a cell that could consume other cells from the Bat-Monster Girl, Julie.

After research by his scientists, they found that this cell could be used to consume excess fat in the human body, thereby achieving a rapid weight loss effect.

Simply put, it was a real Weight Loss Miracle Drug. No matter how fat you were, just one pill would give you a healthy figure.

If this drug were to be launched, it would definitely cause a frenzy among wealthy wives and powerful women.

"Alright, looks like I need to go back to Metropolis."

Gino shrugged, not really minding the idea of returning to Metropolis.

He had quite a few childhood friends in Metropolis, so he wouldn't be bored.

"There's something else."

Lex looked at Gino and said, "I'm in the lab."

Lex didn't finish his sentence.

"Let's talk outside," Gino interrupted Lex.

Lex was puzzled, but followed Gino outside the ward.

Standing in the hallway, Lex reorganized his thoughts. "You know, I've been having people in town collect all sorts of strange items."

\n\n

"Recently, someone found a peculiar prism-shaped item in the swamp on the east side of town."

\n\n

Lex pulled out a quadrilateral metallic prism from his hand. He stared at it, self-deprecatingly. "The interesting thing is, I can't categorize it. It doesn't seem to be from Earth."

\n\n

Gino stared at the fragment in Lex's hand.

\n\n

He took the prism-shaped item, which was cold to the touch but had a strange feeling of warmth.

\n\n

"This thing," Gino frowned, asking Lex, "what do you think it is?"

\n\n

The bald, great scientist Lex was silent for a moment, then gave his answer: "It's like a key to start some kind of device."

\n\n

"A key."

Gino raised an eyebrow, the memory of what Clark had told him not long ago surfacing in the young man's mind.

"Clark has an alien spaceship at his house."

Perhaps this thing had some connection to the ship at Clark's place.

Gino planned to investigate it later.

"Keep this safe. It might be useful someday."

Gino returned the key.

"Oh, right."

Gino pulled another bottle from his pocket and tossed it to Lex.

Lex looked at the bottle in his hand, confusion in his eyes. "What's this for?"

"The decision is yours."

Gino glanced at the white door of the hospital room, then at Lex. After dropping those words, he turned and disappeared around the corner of the hallway.

After Gino left, Lex stared at the bottle in his hand in a daze.

He, of course, knew what Gino was thinking.

Let him decide.

So, should he use this thing to restore Lionel's eyesight?

Lex hesitated for a moment.

Two pirate bars.

The town, having weathered the storm, looked rather desolate.

Almost every household had suffered some damage, and even those who hadn't were in no mood to celebrate the end-of-the-world vibe.

As a result, the town's bars were unusually crowded.

Making his way through the throng, people who recognized the tall, muscular youth quickly cleared a path.

Gino soon spotted Clark and the others at a small table in the corner.

"Gino, over here." Clark waved with a smile, motioning him over.

"It's been a terrible day."

Gino pulled out a chair and slumped into it.

It had been a while since they'd last met, and Gino was already half a head taller than Clark.

At the dinner table, Chloe was bored, idly stirring her coffee with a spoon.

Lana took the initiative to start a conversation, "Gino, is Gotham really as terrifying as they say on TV?"

Thanks to the American media's extensive coverage, Gotham City had become synonymous with monsters and ghosts in the eyes of other Americans.

But strictly speaking, the media was right; Gotham was such an evil city.

Clark, who was beside them, perked up his ears.

Teenage boys were always interested in things like crime and guns because those things seemed "cool."

"How should I put it? It's not an exaggeration, but I heard something interesting there," Gino looked deeply at Clark and then told the other three about Batman.

After finishing, Gino posed a soul-searching question to the three of them: "Do you think this masked person did the right thing?"
