Chapter 176 - Escape the Farm

Late at night.

Kent Farm.

With a joyful stride, arms swinging, he moved like a light breeze over the fences and haystacks.

Sniffing the air, the scent of cow dung, Clark had never felt so close to home.

Yes, after a terrible journey to another world, Clark was finally going back to his adoptive parents.

He didn't care about the suddenly introduced biological father, Jor-El. Clark had finally figured out who was the most important person to him.

He felt happy, and all he wanted was to run to his adoptive parents and be with the new life growing in his mother's belly.

Approaching the entrance of the cottage, the boy couldn't help but slow his steps, fearing he might disturb his mother, Martha.

Stepping onto the familiar porch, Clark reached for the doorknob.

All he had to do was turn the handle, and he would see his adoptive parents.

But,

"Honestly, Clark is so worrying."

Jonathan's voice echoed from inside, his tone low, seemingly suppressing some kind of anger.

Following that, Martha's sobbing could be heard.

Clark's hand, which was about to grasp the doorknob, paused slightly. He pursed his lips, and as if by some unseen force, he lowered his arm. He was puzzled; why was his adoptive mother crying?

"This... this isn't Clark's fault, Jonathan."

Martha's voice was as gentle as ever, but the sorrow in her tone made Clark unconsciously furrow his brow.

A bad feeling enveloped his heart, and an ominous guess surfaced in his mind.

"It was my own carelessness that caused the miscarriage, it has nothing to do with Clark." Martha's weeping grew louder, "Now, I just want Clark to come back!"

The faint sobbing was soft, but it felt like whips from the Civil War era, lashing against Clark's heart.

"Thump!"

A sound like a heavy object falling on a wooden plank came from outside.

"Who is it?" Jonathan stood up alertly, reaching for the shotgun hanging on the wall.

"Could it be Clark who's back?" Martha, her face pale, got up holding her belly and followed Jonathan towards the wooden door.

Gently pushing open the wooden door, all that greeted them besides the cold night wind was the inky darkness.

"It's not Clark," Martha said, a flicker of disappointment crossing her face.

"Let's go inside," Jonathan said, also disappointed, and gently pushed his wife towards the house.

Neither of them saw the fleeting shadow that zipped past the abandoned warehouse on the west side of the farm.

Back in his Fortress of Solitude, Clark's eyes were slightly red as he looked at Martha and Jonathan inside the house.

He hadn't expected that it was because of him that Martha and Jonathan had lost the child they had finally received.

With heavy steps, Clark dragged his tired body to a corner.

He stared at the broken mirror in the corner, the countless cracks in the small mirror reflecting countless Clarks.

He stared at the boy with a grim expression, and Clark couldn't help but clench his fists: "It's all my fault!"

A deep sense of self-blame washed over Clark like a tide.

He reflected on his life, starting from birth, and it seemed he had only brought misfortune and pain to those around him.

"Perhaps." Clark raised his head, looking at the bright moon outside the window.

"My leaving is the best choice!"

"Your leaving is the best choice."

Inside the cold, dark cave, countless gusts of wind blew in through the various holes and cracks in the walls, sounding like demons or the wails of ghosts echoing all around, creating a terrifying and chilling atmosphere.

Gino put away the Tesseract in his hand and stood up with a calm expression.

Those strange noises couldn't frighten him at all.

The golden orb in the wall's alcove had already melted away like snow in the grand blue light screen, completely signaling Jor-El's death. The golden passage, deprived of its energy supply, slowly closed.

Everything was over. Jor-El, along with his ambition to unify Earth, had been destroyed by the Tesseract's violent energy bombardment.

"What should I do next?"

Gino held his forehead, lost in thought.

"Forget it, I should go see Clark's home."

The young man leaped lightly. His tall figure drifted like a feather out of the cave entrance, heading towards Kent Farm.

Late at night.

The orange lights of the Kent couple's house were visible not far away.

Carrying some gifts for a visit, Gino walked onto Kent Farm.

A few cows "mooed" from behind the fence, not sounding very welcoming to Gino's arrival.

He glanced indifferently at the plump cows, cared for by Clark, and then Gino turned towards the house where the Kents lived.

"Who's there?"

Hearing the farm animals' alarm, Jonathan rushed out of the farmhouse again, holding a shotgun.

"Mr. Jonathan, don't be nervous, it's me, Gino Luthor."

Gino raised the gifts in his hand to show he meant no harm.

"Gino?!"

In the dark of night, when Jonathan saw the boy who had disappeared for so long reappear, his face was full of shock: "You... you're back?"

He had so many questions for Gino, but he didn't know where to start.

Jonathan suppressed his inner anxiety: "Is Clark with you?"

"We were together before, but we were exiled to a strange planet because of his biological father's plot," Gino told the middle-aged man, relating some of the things he could share.

Listening to Gino, Jonathan suddenly understood, and at the same time, a feeling called "hope" gradually rose in his heart: "Where's Clark? Did he come back with you?"

"Clark? He came back with me about thirty minutes ago." Gino frowned, a little curious about Clark's whereabouts.

Reason dictated that Jor-El was dead, and the being that could control Clark had been eliminated. Why wasn't the boy with his adoptive parents immediately upon his return?

"Could he have gone to see Lana?"

Hearing Gino's question, Jonathan shook his head: "No, Lana knows Clark is missing. If he had gone to Lana's house, the girl would have called Martha and me."

"I don't know about that. I just came to see you and Martha." Gino handed the gift he was holding to Jonathan.

Gino wasn't too concerned about Clark's disappearance. Jor-El was dead, and no one could threaten Clark. Thinking about Martha's miscarriage, he figured Clark might have heard the news.

Considering Clark's tendency to take all the blame, perhaps he thought he was responsible for Martha losing the baby.

Gino patted Jonathan on the shoulder to comfort him. "Give him some time. Maybe he'll come back in a while."

After saying this, he turned and left, leaving only a sorrowful Jonathan and Martha on the farm.

"Clark."

Martha was worried. Where exactly had her child gone?

"Jonathan." She raised her head and pleaded, "Please, you must find Clark. I've already lost one child, I can't lose Clark too!"
