When my eyes locked with Derek, he flashed me a warm smile from afar, his emerald eyes piercing into mine.
As soon as Matilda walked up to him, I could see the other girls recoiling fearfully, giving way for her to approach Derek.
That dreadful bitch! She's the bullies' leader and the source of my greatest nightmares. It aches to witness her constantly wanting to claim Derek and force herself on him.
She put her arms around him, drooling as she cast him a calculated look. Derek looked so good in his jersey, and I was wondering how and when he decided to join the school football team.
Enzo flung his ball into the air before catching it quickly, keeping his gaze on Derek the entire while. He focused his attention on Derek, his expression unreadable when he spotted the group of girls surrounding him. A few girls were also around him, particularly his girlfriends, and I'm sure he was envious of how many of the girls were turning their attention away from him and toward Derek.
The few girls around him could not keep their gaze away from Derek, and I could sense a trace of jealousy in his eyes.
He walked out of the corridor haughtily, trailed by a few girls who clung to him like fleas.
Deep down, I really wished I could speak to Derek but it's not just f**g possible. I can't speak to my own stepbrother. I can't speak to my own mate as I'll anger the ladies drooling and hoarding around him.
The animosity they feel for me will undoubtedly grow the minute I do that. They'll mock me, despise me, and do all kinds of things to me. They know very well how Mason dumped me for Patricia. When I start a discussion with Derek or try to be with him, they will lash out at me, believing that I am attempting to impose myself on him because Mason abandoned me.
"Derek… you look so handsome.. Oh my goodness! Can I take a picture of you?"
Charlotte asked while Matilda glared at her, a scornful expression plastering all over her face.
She can be quite controlling, rude, spoiled, scary, and possessive. She always wants things her way. She's wealthy, attractive, and influential, and no lady can compete with her.
"Oh.. Derek. Have I told you how hot you look in that sports outfit?"
Maria complimented while Derek flashed her a warm smile. He agreed to take pictures with them after the football match and they all nodded like kids, squealing as they covered their dropped jaws with their palms.
"Now if you'll excuse me…" Derek said to them and when I saw him walking towards me, my heart raced faster than ever, thudding frantically against my chest like it could explode at any moment.
What was he trying to do? I thought we both agreed to act like strangers in school? Even if he wants to speak to me, at least not in front of the girls..
Most of them gave me a narrowed angry gaze, their arms crossed as they tried to figure if it was truly me he was attempting to approach.
I hurriedly placed my diary in my locker before closing the door carefully. I tried to go, tucking a piece of hair behind my ear, but Derek grabbed my arms and drew me closer to him.
My eyes opened as I gazed into his lovely emerald eyes, a smile pulling at the corners of his lips. My gaze shifted from Derek to the girls, and you have to believe me when I say that they all appeared astonished to see Derek approach me.
"Derek.." I called softly, my voice above a whisper.
"I thought we agreed not to talk to each other in school. Derek.. they're all staring at me.. please can you ignore me and go back to them?"
"Why?" He inquired, his eyes searching my puzzled face.
I gulped down the lump in my throat, wondering if he had anything important to say to me.
"I joined the school's football team, Isabel. Mr Ricco asked me to join when he saw me playing with a ball at the field yesterday… I wanted to tell you but I .. I guess I forgot."
"Oh… great," I mumbled with gritted teeth, my eyes glancing around at the numerous eyes on us.
"Why are you nervous?" Derek asked.
"I'm not comfortable with their stares on us. You know how these people are. They might think we have a thing, Derek.."
"So is it a crime if I talk to my own mate?"
"No Derek. You - you will not say that word here in school. We are not at home, okay. We're f**g at school! I feel bad because they'll find out we're going to be related soon, and reminding me that we're mates has broken my heart. They shouldn't know. It's going to make things worse for us, so please…."
"I understand." Derek replied, slipping his fingers into his long dark hair, his Emerald eyes holding me in their grasp.
"The match will be commencing at any minute.. What about you? What's your plan during this sports period?"
"I'm glad I'm part of the cheerleaders team. They approved my request to join yesterday. I'm about to change into the outfit and join them for practice. They have a lot of things to show me since I'm a newbie."
I explained to Derek who nodded as he tucked a strand of my hair behind my ear..
"I'll. – I'll be going now, Derek. I have to go and change. Once I'm done, I'll show up at the stadium with Bonnie. Don't worry, we're both going to vote for you while you play, okay?"
"Thanks…. ma—"
"Derek… not here ." I implored with wide eyes before glancing around, hoping if no one heard him.
"Thanks Isabel.. I'll be leaving now…" Derek said lastly, waving at me before dashing out of the corridor.
After grabbing my cloth, I let out a deep sigh and then, my eyes came in contact with Mason.. He was about to leave for the corridor with his girlfriend, Patricia but his eyes were on me the whole time.
I sneered at him when I remembered how he used Ashley. How he threatened her and blackmailed her.
Averting my gaze from him, I walked away before scurrying into the bathroom, hoping to change into my outfit so I could join the rest of the cheerleaders at the gym. It was my first time with them and I have to make it there as early as possible so I won't be disqualified.
When I entered the bathroom, I heard footsteps outside and was curious who it was. When I looked back, I was surprised that no one was with me. I was the only person there at the time. I chose to disregard my misgivings and entered the washroom, eager to join the new cheerleading team.
I heard footsteps outside the restroom while I was getting dressed. I was scared and worried, so I decided to put on my clothing as quickly as possible, eager to find out who it was. Someone or a group of people was actually following me.
After dressing, I hurried to the door and tried to open it but to my amazement, it was locked from outside.
Someone had locked me up on purpose; I'm sure of it.
