--------------------------------

I stood up from my seat, looking around the table where everyone had gathered. The firelight flickered across their faces, painting them in warm orange hues while the distant hum of the Black Hawk reminded us of what we'd brought into this new world. Each of them had their own strengths, their own burdens, but it was time to organize them into something greater—something structured.

"Alright," I began, my voice firm but calm. "We've built the foundation, but now it's time to take the next step. We need departments—organized leadership—so everyone knows their responsibilities. Since you're all here now, let's get started."

I turned first toward Dr. Helena Crus. Her white coat already marked her as the natural choice. "First things first: medicine. Dr. Crus, you'll serve as the Head of the Medicine Department. I want you to take care of the population, oversee medical needs, and ensure everyone remains healthy. Later, I'd also like to have a private word with you."

She gave a small, respectful nod. "Yes, sir. I'll do my utmost."

"Good." I shifted my gaze to Rosa Alvarez, who had been nervously twisting her fingers but straightened when her name was called. "Rosa, you'll lead the Production Department. That means food reserves, supply chains, and making sure production increases. We'll need more mouths fed as time goes on."

She smiled faintly, determination flashing in her eyes. "Will do, sir. I won't let you down."

"Marco Valdez," I continued, turning to the tall man at the corner of the table. "You're in charge of the Clothing Department. How's the uniform production for our soldiers coming along?"

Marco ran a hand over his stubbled chin before answering. "Almost complete, sir. Just a few more days and they'll all be ready."

"Alright, good work." I moved on, fixing my attention on Ethan Cole. "Ethan, you'll lead the Technology Department. Everything related to power, systems, and our infrastructure—make sure it's maintained. But more than that, start thinking of ways to improve our situation with what we have. Creativity will be key here."

He smirked, clearly pleased. "Finally, something I can sink my teeth into. You can count on me."

"Dr. Simon Patel," I said, meeting the sharp-eyed man's gaze. "You'll head the Weapons Department. I want you to work on creating new weapons and improving the ones we already use. Our survival depends on it."

Simon adjusted his glasses and gave a single nod. "Understood. I already have some designs in mind."

"Leo," I continued, "keep doing what you're doing. You'll oversee Department Management and make sure everything stays coordinated."

Jessy leaned forward, waiting, and I turned to him. "Jessy, you'll serve as the Head of our Navy. Coordinate patrols, oversee shipbuilding, and control our seas."

"Understood," Jessy replied, a confident smile crossing his face.

Then my attention went to Troy. "Troy, you'll lead the Army—both defense and offense. Work closely with Jessy. The two of you will be our shields and our swords."

Troy straightened, saluting instinctively. "It'll be an honor, sir."

I let the silence settle for a moment before continuing. "Max, continue what you've been doing. And finally…" I paused, making sure I had everyone's attention. "…Ray will be my second-in-command. If I'm not here, he will take charge."

The words landed like a stone in still water. The air shifted—not with doubt, but with surprise. I could see it on their faces: raised brows, exchanged glances, the quiet weight of something unexpected.

Ethan was the first to break the silence. "Ray?" he asked, though his tone was more curious than doubtful. "Didn't see that coming. I figured you'd keep things between Jessy and yourself."

Marco chuckled, leaning back in his chair. "Yeah, I thought the three of you were already running the show as a pack. Didn't expect you to make it official."

Rosa smiled faintly, glancing at Ray. "He always seemed more of a behind-the-scenes type. This is… new."

Even Jessy gave me a sideways grin. "So you finally went and did it, huh? Put our boy in the spotlight."

Ray blinked, caught completely off guard. "Wait—me? Second-in-command?" He looked between me and Jessy like he expected one of us to laugh and say it was a joke. "Sir, I… I didn't expect this."

I raised a hand, steadying the room before Jessy could tease him further. "Listen, you all know why. Ray's been with me from the start, same as Jessy. The three of us go way back—before the Federation, before all of this. And in that time, Ray's shown me something a lot rarer than skill or strength: he's steady. Calm when things go bad. Level-headed when the rest of us are ready to jump. That's the kind of person I trust when I'm not around."

Jessy smirked, clapping Ray on the shoulder. "Guess that means you're officially the boring one now."

The room laughed lightly, the tension breaking. Ray, still red in the face, straightened his posture. "If that's what you want, then I'll do it. I won't let you down."

I gave him a firm nod. "That's all I ask. And the rest of you—remember, none of us can do this alone. These titles don't mean walls between us. It's cooperation that'll keep us alive and push us forward. That's how we build something that lasts."

The group eased back into their seats, the surprise still present but softened now by understanding. My choice hadn't just been a matter of loyalty—it was a matter of survival. And they were beginning to see it.

Now then," I began, shifting the room's focus back to me, "the second agenda for today is about the walkers."

A hush fell across the table. I could see curiosity and unease mixing in their expressions.

"That's what we call these people," I continued. "The virus spreads through bites, yes—but that's not the whole truth. The virus is already inside all of us. When someone dies—whether by sickness, injury, or even natural causes—they don't just stay dead. They turn. That's why I want this information spread across the Federation immediately."

I turned toward the Head of Medicine. "You especially need to monitor this closely. Check on those who are already sick, the elderly, anyone whose condition might suddenly worsen. Because the moment they die, they will reanimate. They will rise as walkers."

The word reanimation lingered heavily in the room.

The others exchanged troubled looks. Some shook their heads in disbelief, their silence louder than any protest. I could tell they didn't want to believe me.

"This isn't speculation," I said firmly, leaning forward. "I witnessed it myself, days ago, outside the Federation walls. A man who died naturally—no bite, no scratch—he came back. That is the truth we're facing." That part is a lie, but I just use it to convince them.

The weight of the bombshell settled over them. For the first time in a long while, the room seemed genuinely shaken.
