The shock still clung to me, heavy and suffocating, like the walls themselves were breathing along with him. His shadow bleeding through every stone. I snatched the towel off the floor, wrapping it tighter around my naked body and forced myself through the connecting door, our of our son's room and into our bedroom.

It was mercifully empty. He wasn't inside. If he had been waiting, I didn't know what he would've done to me, or worse, what I would've let him do. I can't help it. Every time he was near, my body betrayed me, making me pliant to his desires, weak. 

My chest burned, each inhale like knives stabbing at my lungs. I moved fast, and get quickly dressed the moment I reached into our closet. I grabbed a tank top and jeans, before putting on my running shoes. Something I've always worn back when we were on the run. My hair, still wet, plastered to my sides, but I didn't care.
