Chapter 8 - Changing room × Cafeteria Ban

Wren stared at herself in the mirror in the changing room, the fluorescent lights above highlighting her features. She had finished changing into the outfit she swore never to wear, and it fitted her perfectly, making her look much more serious and less fragile. Her hair reached her neck, framing her face, and her big, wide eyes were filled with curiosity. When she first entered Westwood Academy, she looked so fragile in her clothing, but just some hours made her look different. She wondered what she would look like in the next twelve years when she would be leaving. Would she look like a fragile girl or would she look mature and self-capable?

As she stood there, lost in thought, Ashley tagged on her arm, breaking the spell. "Let's go," Ashley said, her voice firm but friendly. Wren nodded, and they headed towards the cafeteria. The cafeteria was a large, modern building with sleek lines and a gleaming exterior. The doors were made of glass and metal, and they slid open with a soft whoosh as students entered and exited. The sign above the door read "Cafeteria" in bold letters, and the smell of food wafted out into the hallway, enticing students to come and eat.

The smell of food wafted through the air, making Wren's stomach growl with hunger. But as they approached the cafeteria, Wren was immediately stopped by the guard guarding the front door. The guard was a tall, imposing figure with a stern expression. He wore a crisp uniform and a badge on his chest, and his eyes seemed to bore into Wren's soul as he looked at her. "Wren Williams," the guard said, his deep voice commanding attention. Wren looked up at the man, who towered over her like a giant. "Yes," she replied, her voice barely above a whisper. "You are detained from the cafeteria until further notice," he said, his expression stern.

Wren frowned deeply, her eyes narrowing in frustration. From where she stood, the sweet aromatic fragrance of food drifted into her nostrils, making her mouth water. As if on cue, Kai appeared, smugly walking with some boys who towered over them. "Hey stupid, what are you thinking?" he said, his voice dripping with mockery. "Ways of robbing the cafeteria," he continued, pulling on her cheek. But Wren slapped his hand away, her eyes burning with hatred.

"Don't you ever touch me, jerk," Wren growled, her voice low and menacing. Kai nudged at her, before pushing her away from him. "Touching you makes me nauseous. Come on, boys, let's go," he said, his voice dismissive.

But just when he was about to enter the cafeteria, Wren kicked him in the ass, her foot connecting with a satisfying thud. "Don't ever touch me again," she said, her voice firm. With that, Wren stomped off, her feet pounding the floor in anger.

"What a feisty cat she is," one boy commented. "She kinda cute for her age, what's her name, Kai?" another boy asked. Kai's face darkened, and he shot the boy a warning glance. "Name, Kai," he replied curtly, his voice cold. "Stupid, that's her name," he added, his eyes flashing with annoyance.

The boys started talking about Wren as they entered the cafeteria. "I wonder what she's like in a fight," one of them said, chuckling. "I bet she'd be a wildcat," another boy replied, grinning. Kai didn't join in the conversation, his expression still dark from the encounter with Wren.

Wren went to the dorm, where she saw her dorm mate whom hanged with Kai lying on his bed, staring at the ceiling. His blue eyes seemed to sparkle in the dim light of the room, and his brown hair was messy and unkempt. His lips were pursed in a tight frown, and he seemed lost in thought. As Wren approached her bed, he didn't seem to notice her at first until he heard her question."You ain't going to get dinner?" Wren asked, trying to sound casual. At first, Kelvin acted as if she weren't in the room. "Wouldn't you grab dinner,.." he turned to her and replied to her in a low, husky voice. Despite his aloof demeanor, there was something about him that seemed vulnerable and sensitive. his voice low and husky. "It's Kelvin," he intervened. "Wouldn't you get dinner, Kelvin?" Wren asked, trying to keep the conversation going. "I am not hungry," he replied briefly, clearly not in the mood for talking.

"Why?" Kelvin looked at her, finally moving his eyes from the ceiling, it was then Wren took in his appearance. Kelvin had chiseled features, with high cheekbones and a strong jawline. His blue eyes seemed to sparkle under the dim light of the dorm room, and his brown hair was messy and unkempt. His lips were pursed in a tight frown, giving him a brooding look.

"So gonna stop staring, you know you have a habit right." Wren blushed when she realized she was caught." Habit like.." " it's obvious you like staring at people as if scrutinizing them, taking in the details. You look like a big eyed cat when you do that. And I am not been nice by saying so." "Touche." Wren replied staring away." You ain't the talker are you." "Neither are you?" He replied coldly." You are sarcastic."" You are too naive." Wren looked at him, their eyes locking in a tense moment.

As they lay there, the tension between them was palpable. Wren felt a flutter in her chest, and Kelvin's eyes seemed to bore into her soul. She looked away, trying to break the spell. But Kelvin's gaze lingered on her, his eyes taking in the curves of her face.

Wren faced the other side, which was Kai's bed but felt annoyed. It felt like she was seeing Kai when she looked at his bed. She turned her face again, but this time instead of Kelvin watching the ceiling his gaze was fixed on her." You didn't answer my question, you diverted it didn't you." Kelvin only glanced at her before replying." I had anticipated you would turn, I had only counted to three and you turned. You really don't like minding your business." Wren rolled her eyes, pursing her lips tightly. When he said that, a little bit of her family appeared in mind.

Her mom had just returned from work one evening, but she was met with a horrific scene.

her mom came in to find her twin sister bleeding and a knife in Wren's hand. But she was framed, by her wicked twin who wanted to get rid of her, and become her mother's only daughter. After that incident, her mom started seeing her as a potential threat for society and every mistake that went wrong was eventually Wren's fault. Until oneday, her mother was introduced to Westwood Academy, were naughty children were disciplined.

Kelvin saw the tears glistening in her eyes, and thought it was because of him she was crying. He walked over but it seemed she didn't realize his presence. Bending to her bed he tagged at her shoulder.

"Hey, are you crying because of what I said, don't mind my sarcastic personality," he said, trying to coax a smile out of her.

Wren looked up at him, her eyes red-rimmed. "It's not your fault," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "I just remembered something."
