Chapter 44 - ⁴⁴: loyal to the queen

"Minister Kaelith, what has happened?" Yasoria's voice carried a thread of urgency as she stepped into Zevryn's chamber, her long robes brushing the floor with each quick stride. Her brows knitted tightly, worry plain in her usually composed face.

"Leave us alone," Kaelith ordered curtly, his voice sharp enough to slice the air. At once, the guards bowed and withdrew, closing the heavy door behind them as he room fell silent.

Kaelith's gaze returned to Yasoria. His expression, usually firm and unreadable, carried an edge of unease now. "I might need your help with this, Elder Yasoria." He lifted his hand and pointed toward the shield mounted on the wall.

Yasoria's eyes followed his gesture, narrowing slightly as she took a step closer. "But what has happened?" she asked again, her voice gentler but no less insistent.
