"So, you are Elijah Ambrose and Alexei Vetrov. Both are students of the Kingsemere University... Of course," she muttered.
"It's always you geniuses who like to butcher people for some sick pleasure. What were you doing? Trying to summon a demon for research?"
"No," Elijah said calmly. "We were just trying to stop it."
Selena blinked once, then rolled her eyes.
"Uh-huh. You'll forgive me if I don't swoon at your hero story. We'll see what the lab says about those entrails."
"Those are from a pig," Elijah told the truth. What was the point of wasting time, anyway?
"But the stuff inside is from human flesh. Possibly the intestines of those hollowed-out victims you guys have been finding for the past three weeks."
Alexei let out a strangled groan and thunked his forehead onto the table.
We are so done, he thought. This kid was good everywhere, really. And that was exactly the issue here.
Sure enough, Selena's gaze hardened.
