"There was this little girl. She told me to… and she didn't blink!" Alexei finally understood why she looked so strange.
Throughout their entire conversation, she hadn't blinked, not even once.
"You have to believe me, Elijah. She was on the swing, and then she came to me."
The young master was beyond flustered.
Elijah had to force down his groan. Just a few minutes ago, he was pleading with his godfather that this kid was worthy of his efforts, that his heart was in a good place.
And now... He didn't even have words to explain his feelings. In short, they were complicated. Very complicated.

Elijah, ashamed and equally embarrassed, could only agree. "I understand, Father."
