The Supernatural Realms faces a harrowing prophecy—an apocalypse destined to wipe out all beings, starting with the werewolves, then witches, vampires, and finally, humans.

     To prevent this, the werewolf high council formed a pact with other creatures on earth. Each realm would send a candidate to the Brookshigh Academy. 

The goal was to discover if an alliance/bond between an Alpha and a representative from another realm could produce a bond powerful enough to stop the impending apocalypse.  

    This year, the humans have chosen Hope. 

    When Hope’s sister vanished without a trace from Brookshigh Academy years ago, Hope never believed she’d follow in her footsteps. But with nothing left to lose, she accepted a scholarship to the very same school.

I grip Mommy's hand tighter, bouncing on the heels of my sparkly pink shoes. My dress is itchy, but I don't care. Today is my birthday—and I'm getting the one thing I've wanted all year.


"Is he here yet?" I ask, my eyes wide with excitement.


"Not yet, sweetie," Mommy says, her smile soft but distracted. She glances at Daddy. He's standing still, with his arms crossed, his lips pressed in that straight line I've come to know means he's not very happy.


But I overheard them this morning. He's nervous. He said he hopes "it's human this time."


I've begged for one since I turned four.


And Mommy promised to get me an older brother for my next birthday.


She said he didn't come from her tummy, but that doesn't matter because we're going to love him and give him a home. A real home. One where he'll never get hurt again.
