Chapter 7 - I STILL MEAN A LOT TO HIM

Adriana's POV

"Adriana, Adriana open up," the voice urged.

"That voice sounds familiar," I thought. It sounded just like…."Juan,is that you?" I shouted.

"Yes it's me, please open up now," he begged. He sounded extremely worried and I wondered what had happened for him to suddenly show up here. I quickly opened the door and he hugged me just as he entered the room.

"I'm so glad you're okay Adriana," Juan said, hugging me tightly. I stood there in confusion of what was going on and I began to wonder what he had figured out about me already. But the name he called me made me feel at ease of insecurity as he hadn't called me that name in ages.

I couldn't help but hug him too. "I'm very much okay Juan, nothing bad could ever happen to me as long as you're here with me."

He then pulled away from me,took my hand and sat me down on the bed. He also sat down and looked into my eyes with all seriousness so much that I had to look away so he wouldn't notice anything.

"Why didn't you tell me?,"he suddenly asked. I looked at him, waiting for him to complete his words but he didn't.

Oh! this is how you want to play it?" I thought to myself. "Let's go then."

"Tell you what?," I asked consciously. I concluded within me that I would not say anything till he talks so as not to blurt out both the ones he doesn't know.

"Why didn't you tell me that there were gunshots at the venue and you fainted?." I sank in, knowing fully well that he would ask me questions and all I could say to him was that I was sorry.

"Why are you not telling me anything again Adriana?," Juan asked sadly. "I can understand that you're married now but I still care about you and I want to continue caring about you." I glanced at Juan's eyes and I could feel he was sad at that moment.

"Can't I at least be able to do that for you?," he asked again.

I took one of his hands and held it tightly. "I am sorry Juan,I thought I would be disturbing you if I continually told you about my problems; especially now that I'm married," I told Juan calmly.

"You can never disturb me Adriana, you still mean a lot to me and I can't see you getting hurt ever." His words touched my heart and tears began to well up in my eyes. Maybe I was emotional because of all I had gone through that morning but anyhow,I let the tears flow.

"Why are you crying? Don't cry Adriana," Juan consoled me as he was wiping my tears.

Mr Antonio's POV

"Lucas!," I called my personal assistant as I was coming from my room down the stairs leading to the living room. "Lucas!," I called again, louder than before.

"Yes sir," Lucas replied as he was hurrying to the living room.

"You should know very well that I don't like stressing myself. If I call you once, you should answer immediately," I shouted at him.

"I'm sorry sir,it won't happen again," he apologised, bowing his head.

"Whatever," I said. "How quickly can you call Luis over ?" I asked seriously. I needed it to be done as soon as possible.

"As soon as I can sir," he replied. He looked like a lackadaisical fool and I could barely count on him. However, I was in serious need of Luis at the moment so I had to count on him just this once.

"In the next ten minutes, call him here. I don't want to wait more than ten minutes or you won't like it," I told Lucas sternly. None of the men I employ do things well till I threaten them.

I headed for my office to await Luis' arrival. As I settled down in my office,I recalled the task I gave one of my employees. "Go bring my recent employee here now," I ordered one of my guards. He returned with the newbie a few seconds later and I signaled for my guard to leave both of us alone and he complied.

"Why haven't you given me a positive reply on the task I asked you to do?" I asked the newbie.

"I am trying my best boss but they keep complicating my plans," the newbie replied.

"Such a useless person," I said in disappointment. People that were this incompetent had nothing to do on the earth anymore.

"I'm sorry boss,"the newbie apologised, getting scared suddenly. " I promise I will get it done now." That was not my concern because once I gave someone a task and they failed to do it the first time, they were fired.

I opened my lower drawer that was beside me and took out my favourite gun from it. I took out my silencer and fixed it on the gun and loaded it. The newbie was still pleading for his life and then "Boom" I shot him in the chest.

"Mario, get in here now," I commanded my bodyguard who was waiting outside the door. He came in,looked at the lifeless body but it didn't faze him at all because he was already used to it.

I told him to get rid of the body and he obeyed." Yes boss," he said, lifted the body from the floor and was about to leave when I called him back.

"Get someone to come change this carpet now," I told him before he left.

Few minutes later, one of my servants came in with a fresh carpet and laid it on the floor. When he was done,he approached me and stood, wanting to tell me something.

"Boss, Mr Luis is here," he said.

"Send him in," I told him and he left to do what I said. Luis knocked, entered my office and sat down while greeting me.

Welcome Luis," I said calmly. "I want you to help me keep an eye on the Cruz family and update me about it regularly." I went straight to the point, not minding anything else.

He had a confused expression that instant and it made me doubt trusting him with the job. But since I had no other options as he was closer to the family, I still chose him.

"Do you mean me sir?" he asked, still shocked.

"Yes, and you will do it for me secretly." It looked like he was about to refuse the job but I couldn't have him do that.

"Don't bother refusing the offer because you will still do it, whether you like it or not," I said to him sternly. I couldn't have him refusing the job as that was the only way I could continue with my plans.

"This is an order, not a request so when will I start receiving updates from you?"
