Lucian's POV
One week.
It had been exactly one week since Moonveil Academy became a war zone, since the supernatural world was exposed to humanity in the most violent way possible, since Maeve disappeared into the darkness wearing a monster's face.
One week since my world ended.
I stood behind the podium in the packed conference room, adjusting my tie for the hundredth time. The black suit felt like a straitjacket, formal and suffocating. Every camera in the room was pointed at me, every reporter's pen was poised, every eye was watching me like I was some kind of exotic animal they had never seen before.
Which, I guess, I was.
The police officers stationed around the room had their hands resting on their weapons. Not obviously threatening, but ready. Like they expected me to suddenly sprout fangs and claws and go on a rampage.
If only they knew I was fighting that urge every single day.
