The cave pulsed with power as Fenris and I prepared the altar.
Shadows writhed along the walls like living things, responding to the dark energy that had been building here for centuries. This was where it all began, where Selene had created lycans, where Malevolent had first tasted defeat.
And now, it would be where he rose again.
Lucian lay bound on the stone altar, shadow chains wrapped around his wrists and ankles, holding him in place despite his vampiric strength. He had stopped struggling physically, but I could see the war still raging in his violet eyes, hope battling despair, love fighting against the cruel reality of what was about to happen.
"You don't have to do this," he said, his voice hoarse. "Give her back."
