Prologue I: Hope

"Noo….! Don't rip it, you idiot!" The little girl yelled, as she used all her might to pull her rabbit plushie back to her arms, but in doing so, it was ripped in half by the other girl pulling at it!

"Nooo!!"

They both exclaimed in despair, as the rabbit was ripped in half, the cotton inside falling out onto the grass below them.

"It's you're fault, Emily!" The girl who kept pulling yelled after a brief silence that followed.

The little girl, Emily, widened her eyes.

"Me? I told you not to pull!"

The other girl shook her head. "Nope, it could never Jasmine's fault!"

Emily could hardly believe the way her so-called "best-friend" was acting! She had the urge to go and complain to mother, but then a sudden thought entered her head. She looked around—

"Hey, now that I think about it…." Emily pursued her lips. "Where is Kristina? She said she would come."

Jasmine, who had her arms crossed, let them fall to her side, as she had just now been reminded of Kristina's absence. That girl was always fun to play with at the park with, but….

"Hmm, I don't know. Didn't she say that she would buy Popsicles for us today?"

Emily widened her eyes, as she nodded vigorously. "She did! How could she forget? Maybe she expected us to forget!"

Jasmine gasped.

"We have to tell our mother's!"

Emily nodded in agreement. "Kristina cannot get away with this!"

And so, the two little girls ran towards their mother's who was sitting at a bench, talking about something amongst themselves. One was a tall, middle-aged brunette women, the other slightly more petite with blond hair and pale skin, looking much younger.

Seeing, the two rushing towards them, the brunette one called out.

"Hmm? What's the matter, Emily?"

The blond one soon followed. "You look upset, Jasmine. Here, first drink some water…."

Jasmine shook her head firmly and refused the water, even though her chest was heaving and there was sweat running down her face.

"There…pant.. we need you to….pant.. for us!"

Emily nodded in agreement. "Yes, mom. Call Kristina's parents! She still hasn't come!"

Jasmine added. "She promised us Popsicles!"

The blond one was taken aback for a moment, before letting out a light giggle and patting them both on the hand, nevertheless offering them both a water bottle to share.

"Calm down, calm down…."

"You can tell us the whole story after relaxing," The Brunette one added.

The two girls shared a look, before quickly opening the cap and drinking down—well, Jasmine was the first to drink it. She managed to overpower the helpless Emily.

"No fair…!" Emily whined, still attempting to reach out, as she watched in despair as Jasmine devoured all the water inside the bottle!

The brunette women sighed and handed Emily a spare water bottle. "Here you go."

Emily gave a sharp look towards Jasmine, before opening the cap of the bottle and drinking it herself, making sure to finish the whole bottle before Jasmine could!

A minute later, the two of them were now all satisfied. Though, unfortunately for Emily, Jasmine won like always.

"Hehe~" Jasmine giggled, sticking out her tongue towards a grumbling Emily.

Emily didn't bother giving Jasmine the reaction she wanted and instead, went right back to business! "Mom, can you call Kristina's parents?"

The Brunette one titled her head to the side, as she looked down at Emily. "Why?"

Jasmine responded. "Because she hasn't come! And she promised us Popsicles today!"

"She didn't come today?" The blond one murmured. "Hmm, we could give her parents a call. They did say that Kristina will be spending the night at her uncle's place today."

The Brunette one nodded.

"Maybe that's why she couldn't come. It's quite far from here and her uncle doesn't have a car."

Jasmine was stumped. "But it's not fair! Why did she decide to spend the night at her uncles place, huh? I don't like that trashy old man!"

Emily couldn't help but agree, nodding her head vigorously.

The Blond one sighed and shook her head. "It's because her parents wanted to spend some romantic time alone, but not without leaving their child unattended."

The brunette one had to resist the urge to roll her eyes. To her, this whole thing was just ridiculous and irresponsible of them. That's exactly what they were gossiping about together before the kids came rushing.

"Also, watch your tongue, Jasmine. It's rude to call people that." The blond one added.

Jasmine scoffed and sticked out her tongue towards her mother. "I'm not wrong though, am I? I don't like that weird guy, like, at all!"

The brunette one sighed. "Even if you don't like him, that doesn't mean you have to express it so openly. There is something called tact, Jasmine."

Emily widened her eyes.

"Oh, I know this one! Tact means understanding, right?!"

She always loved an opportunity to flex her knowledge.

The Brunette one smiled and patted Emily's head. "That's right. Good girl."

Jasmine, meanwhile, simply rolled her eyes. She was about to say something, but her mother spoke up before she could.

"Now, instead of Kristina getting you Popsicles, how about we go and get you some, hmm? Come on. There should be a little shop nearby…."

The Brunette one nodded. "That's a great idea."

The two girls hesitated. They still wanted Kristina to keep her promise, but at the same time…

"Okay, let's go." Jasmine stated.

"Okay." Emily soon followed.

And so, the four of them walked together, hand in hand. The two girls skipping, which as usual, turned into a competition all because of Jasmine and Emily's tendency to absolutely prove herself as not inferior, always.

A girl that looked around twelve stumbled out of a bed. Her pyjamas was torn and worn, her brunette hair was a disheveled mess and there was some bites over her porcelain skin. Her hazel eyes has lost all colour, her expression blank.

On the bed was a middle-aged bald man with a bushy beard, sound asleep.

"One day…." The girl whispered, as she managed to stumble out the room, despite her legs barely listening to her. "One day someone will save me."

A delusional hope, but some call this delusion; Optimism.
