Chapter 25 - Leaving

Chapter 25 Amanda's POV

The next day, I received a summons from the Alpha King, requesting my presence in his chambers. I made my way to the palace, wondering what the king had in store for me. As I entered his chambers, I could sense a sense of urgency in the air.

"Amanda, I have news that requires your immediate attention," the king said, his voice grave. "The Red Wolf pack has been attacked by rogue vampires. They're in disarray, and I need you to stabilize the pack."

I nodded, understanding the gravity of the situation. The Red Wolf pack was a crucial ally, and it was imperative that we maintained a strong relationship with them.

"I'll leave as soon as possible," I said, determination in my voice.

The king nodded, a hint of a smile on his face. "I knew I could count on you, Amanda. You're one of my most trusted pack members."

I returned to our quarters, finding Onyi awake and sitting on the couch. He smiled at me, his eyes crinkling at the corners. But despite the smile, I could sense a lingering sadness in his eyes.

"Hey," he said, his voice soft.

I walked over to him, sitting down beside him. "Hey," I replied, taking his hand in mine. "What's wrong, baby? You've been distant since yesterday. Is everything okay?"

Onyi's smile faltered for a moment, and he looked away. I could see the tension in his body, the way his muscles were coiled tight with worry.

"I'll be fine," he said finally, his voice low. "Don't worry about me."

I squeezed his hand gently. "I do worry about you, Baby. You're my mate, and I care about you deeply. If something's bothering you, I want to help."

Onyi's eyes met mine, and for a moment, I saw a glimmer of sadness in them. But he just shook his head, his smile returning.

"I'll be okay," he said. "But I need to tell you something. The king sent for me, and...and I have to go away for a while."

Onyi's eyes locked onto mine, and I saw a flicker of concern in them. "What do you mean?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.

"I have to go to the Red Wolf pack," I said, my voice gentle. "They've been attacked by rogue vampires, and the king needs me to stabilize the pack."

Onyi's face fell, and I saw a flash of sadness in his eyes. But he didn't say anything, just pulled me into a tight hug.

"I'll be leaving in two days," I said, my voice muffled against his shoulder.

Onyi's arms tightened around me, and he nestled into my neck. I could feel his warm breath on my skin, and his heartbeat seemed to slow down as he held me close.

In that moment, I knew that Onyi was scared, scared of being apart from me. And I couldn't blame him. The thought of leaving him behind, even for a short while, filled me with a sense of unease.

" Hey " I cup his face and peck his lips," It's just a week, I'll return soon, love" I said and he nodded.
