FaeLina was having a complete and utter meltdown.
She zipped back and forth in front of my core, a frantic pink blur of incandescent rage and sheer disbelief.
"This is a catastrophe! A travesty! A mockery of everything the Dungeon system stands for!" she shrieked, her voice echoing in the now-silent cave. "I can already able to hear the Archlich's official review now: 'The Comfy Corner, rating: zero skulls. Primary hazard appears to be involuntary napping.' We'll be a laughing stock!"
She's being a bit dramatic, I thought, calmly observing my new balance.
[Dungeon Points (DP): 58]
It was a beautiful number. A powerful number.
The sleeping adventurer, Kevin, was still a reliable source of income, snoring softly on his mossy pillow. Every minute that passed was another point in my coffer.
[DP: 59]
FaeLina stopped mid-rant and stared at the notification only she and I could see. "He's still generating points! This is fundamentally wrong! The Dungeon Core Accreditation Board has rules, you know! Very specific, very pointy rules!"
I ignored her, my attention fixed on the reward from my recent achievement.
New Room Unlocked: [Cozy Tea Nook]
Description : A small, welcoming space designed to soothe weary souls and promote tranquil contemplation. Cost: 40 DP.
It was expensive. A huge investment. I could purchase eight more moss patches with that amount of DP and turn my entire cave floor into a field of fluff. That was the safe, logical path to maximizing my nap-based income.
But a Tea Nook… that was a statement. It was a declaration that this dungeon wasn't just a place for a quick rest. It was a destination.
Build it, I decided, sending the command to the system.
[-40 DP. Are you sure you wish to manifest the 'Cozy Tea Nook'?]
Yes.
FaeLina gasped as the purple energy within my core surged outwards. "What are you doing now?! Don't tell me you're actually building that… that abomination!"
The ground trembled. The earthen walls of the small cave did not crumble, but rather, they seemed to flow like liquid. The space expanded, the ceiling rising higher. The raw scent of damp earth was instantly replaced by an ambrosial fragrance of sandalwood, fresh mint, and brewing chamomile.
From the dungeon floor, a polished mahogany counter rose into existence, smooth and gleaming. Behind it, shelves filled themselves with porcelain cups and canisters of tea leaves. A few small, round tables, each surrounded by plush floor cushions, materialized in the newly formed space. A chalkboard menu appeared on the wall, elegant script spelling out the day's offerings: 'Sleepytime Serenity', 'Dreamer's Delight', and 'A Moment of Peace'.
The manifestation was flawless, executed with a level of detail and quality that felt far beyond a simple Level 1 dungeon.
FaeLina watched the entire process, her mouth hanging open in stunned silence. When the last cushion had fluffed itself into perfect position, she finally spoke, her voice a begrudging whisper.
"Okay… that was… impressively done." She shook her head, as if to clear it. "But it's still a stupid, pointless, rule-breaking tea shop!"
Just then, another notification chimed.
[Adventurer 'Kevin the Courageous' is waking up.]
[DP generation from this subject has ceased.]
On the moss patch, Kevin stirred. He sat up, stretching his arms over his head with a loud, satisfying groan. He blinked, looking around not with fear, but with a placid, peaceful confusion.
"Wow," he murmured to himself. "I feel… amazing. My back doesn't even hurt."
He stood up, brushed the dirt from his breeches, and then his eyes landed on the newly formed Tea Nook. His jaw dropped.
"Whoa. Was… was that here before?"
Drawn by the warm, inviting scent, he walked over to the counter, his sword completely forgotten on the floor. He read the menu with genuine interest.
A problem occurred to me. A tea nook needed a waiter. I couldn't very well serve him myself. I focused my will, drawing on my remaining DP.
[Create low-tier mana creature? Cost: 2 DP]
Yes. Make it… helpful.
A small glob of purple, tea-scented slime oozed up from behind the counter, shaping itself into a friendly, vaguely humanoid form with two stubby arms. It wobbled expectantly.
Kevin didn't even flinch. He was too relaxed. "Hello there. Could I get a 'Moment of Peace'?"
He placed a single copper coin on the counter. The slime-barista wobbled, absorbing the coin into its gelatinous body before dispensing a steaming cup of fragrant tea.
[+1 Copper Coin added to Dungeon Treasury.]
[+5 Bonus DP for achieving 'Peaceful Commerce'!]
FaeLina looked as though she was about to faint.
"COMMERCE?!" she screeched. "You're running a business?! We're a dungeon, not a high-street cafe! You're going to get us audited by the Fairy Council for unorthodox resource acquisition! They'll revoke my license!"
Kevin, meanwhile, took a sip of his tea. His eyes closed in bliss. "This is the best tea I've ever had," he sighed.
After finishing the cup, he seemed to finally remember where he was. He looked at the cave walls, at me (the strange glowing rock), and at his sword on the floor. A flicker of self-preservation returned.
He cautiously picked up his weapon, gave the slime a polite nod, and backed away towards the entrance. He wasn't running in terror; he was leaving with the cautious satisfaction of a man who had just had the best spa day of his life.
As he disappeared from view, I was left alone with my new Tea Nook, a slime employee, one copper coin, and a hyperventilating fairy.
My DP sat at a comfortable 21.
FaeLina was curled into a tight ball, rocking back and forth in the air. "Audits," she muttered. "Forms in triplicate… fines… rule-breaking demerits…"
I ignored her panicked rambling. My first customer had been a complete success.
Now, I wondered, what other cozy amenities could I build?
