Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: Electromagnetic Cannon

Back Mountain Forest.

Hyuga Satoru played with the bow and arrow in his hands. The bow was nearly as tall as he was, but fortunately, he hadn't neglected his physical training, so handling it didn't feel difficult at all.

The bow was made of a type of wood he couldn't name, but it was extremely flexible. The string reflected a faint metallic sheen, giving off a cold, sharp aura.

Satoru flicked it a few times with his fingers.

Hmm, very sturdy.

"Free stuff sure does taste sweet!"

Satoru was very satisfied with the bow's quality. After all, it was free—who needed a bicycle if they got a free ride?

No matter what Uchiha Rin's intentions were, Satoru wasn't going to turn down a gift. He had roughly calculated that, based on the quality of this bow, his current savings probably wouldn't cover the cost.

With his current level of electromagnetism, creating a true electromagnetic cannon was still too difficult.

Otherwise, he could just use an iron tube and steel balls to make a sniper rifle, right?

He chose the bow because he wanted to leverage the kinetic energy of the arrows to maximize the damage!

Everything for damage!

Satoru placed an arrow on the string of the bow. To complete an electromagnetic cannon with the bow, he first needed to create the accelerating magnetic field.

The principle behind the electromagnetic cannon was fairly simple: a metal projectile is accelerated through a magnetic field, gaining immense initial velocity.

The key factor was the acceleration process—what they called electromagnetic propulsion.

Satoru remembered that in his past life, when countries like the U.S. and Russia were competing in the arms race, they also developed electromagnetic cannons, and the biggest technical challenge was the propulsion.

To accelerate the projectile to the ideal velocity, the current required was immense. The U.S. was limited by this, struggling to apply the electromagnetic cannon to aircraft carriers.

Meanwhile, Russia had overcome the technical barrier and was far ahead in the application of electromagnetic cannons.

But for Satoru, he could bypass the step of converting electromagnetic induction into the magnetic field and directly arrange the propulsion field on the bowstring. This was why he insisted on using a metal bowstring—he still didn't have the ability to alter the magnetic field of other materials.

What disappointed him, however, was that not all of his arrows were metal. The shafts were still made of wood, which would undoubtedly reduce the efficiency of electromagnetic propulsion.

But a full-metal arrow? Probably no one in the ninja world had one. It didn't fit weapon forging standards—no one would use a fully metal arrow, as it would be too heavy and lack flexibility, unless it was custom-made.

But for Satoru, arrows weren't that important. What mattered was the ability to fire an electromagnetic cannon with a bow!

He pulled the bowstring back with his fingers.

The blue electric sparks danced on the metal bowstring, and the arrowhead visibly buzzed with faint electrical currents.

With Byakugan activated, Satoru could see within a one-kilometer radius. Once he sensed that the electromagnetic propulsion on the arrow had reached its maximum limit, he released the string.

Whoosh!

With a sharp, piercing sound of an explosion!

The arrow turned into a blue lightning arc and vanished in the blink of an eye.

From the perspective of his Byakugan, Satoru clearly saw that the arrow hit the tree trunk about 800 meters away, with only a small section of the arrow's tail still sticking out.

Satoru's face lit up. The explosive sound was the sonic boom caused by breaking the sound barrier, which meant the arrow's speed had exceeded that of sound! The entire shot, from release to impact, had taken only about one second, with an average speed of about 800 meters per second. In comparison, the initial speed of a regular handgun bullet is around 400 meters per second—this arrow far exceeded the speed of a handgun!

Although it was still far from the power of an electromagnetic cannon he remembered, in the ninja world, it was already terrifying!

Ninjas typically had short ranges, but with this level of attack, paired with Byakugan, he could become a sniper!

Imagine being 800 meters away, drawing the bow, and killing someone with one shot!

"With my current chakra, I can shoot two arrows at most. But because the propulsion is electromagnetic, the bow and arrows don't release chakra waves during flight, and with the speed surpassing the sound barrier, it offers enough concealment. My sniping ability is extremely strong."

Satoru thought for a moment, analyzing the pros and cons of the shot.

With long-range sniping abilities and Byakugan's almost no-dead-zone vision, he was essentially the ninja world's version of the electromagnetic sniper rifle!

The only limitation was that he didn't have enough arrows...

Satoru couldn't help but sigh. Custom metal arrows would be expensive, and as consumables, their cost would be even higher. He suddenly wondered—what if he used chakra-infused metal for the arrows? Would that change the power?

After all, different metals have different efficiencies in a magnetic field. Would chakra-infused metal gain more kinetic energy in the field?

Satoru stored the large bow in a sealing scroll. He didn't want to carry such a large bow around every day, and the sealing scroll had cost him quite a bit of money, which made him wince.

"I need to find a way to make money," he muttered, clicking his tongue.

...

The Next Day.

Satoru arrived at ninja school, yawning. Red Bean, walking beside him, winked. "Satoru, why do you look so out of it again?"

"Because I'm training every night."

"Really?"

Seeing the sly look on Red Bean's face, Satoru couldn't be bothered to explain. Last night, he not only had to complete his essential training, but he'd also spent a long time thinking about how to make money.

Developing electromagnetism was costly, and with his current financial situation, it was impossible to raise that much capital. The bow he had now was a freebie, after all.

Becoming a Genin and taking missions was still a long way off. His electromagnetism training plan was on hold for now.

"Satoru, do you remember? There's a practical exam today!" Red Bean suddenly said.

"A practical exam?" Satoru looked up at her.

"You didn't know? The first semester is almost over, and you didn't even realize the exam was coming?"

Satoru paused for a moment, then remembered. It had been a long time since he started attending ninja school, and he realized that the final exam for the first semester was almost here.

But it wasn't really his fault. After all, he spent most nights training, and during the day, he slept through class—he had no concept of time.

"Great."

Red Bean sighed and rubbed her forehead as she looked at Satoru in disbelief.

"You're going to fail miserably. A lot of people are hoping for you, the Hyuga clan ninja, to mess up!"

"Did you know? People in class have been mocking you for being lazy and sleeping in class every day, just like Obito. You're at the bottom of the class..." Red Bean chattered.

Satoru remained silent, his gaze flickering. He seemed lost in thought.

Soon, Fujino Daiki entered the classroom. After handling a few administrative matters, he led the students to the playground for the practical exam.

He proudly surveyed the students on the field, as if observing rows of fresh, green chives.

Under his guidance, many students had made significant progress. They were the future of the village!

But when his eyes landed on two figures, his face turned awkward and helpless. One was Obito, an absolute oddball from the Uchiha clan. Thankfully, Rin was there to restore some dignity to the clan. Otherwise, the students might have changed their impression of the Uchiha clan.

The other was Hyuga Satoru.

Obito might be a fool, but at least he wasn't lazy. He stayed alert in class. But Satoru... this guy... he was just too lazy!

Sleeping in class, peeing after class.

What was going on? Fujino Daiki had a headache. Was this the year of the bizarre students from prestigious clans?

One Uchiha? One Hyuga?
