He was sitting in the interrogation room for maybe an hour before Detective Bullock and Detective Montoya walked into the room. Montoya was carrying a single tablet and a small book to take notes. But Bullock had a full-on shit eating grin. Like they had him dead to rights.
Rico will admit he was curious what exactly they had on him. Just as curious as he was about where his lawyer was. But instead of speaking he stayed silent with his arms forcefully held before him. He had handcuffs that were attached to a metal handle in the middle of the table. It was an uncomfortable feeling to sit like this.
"Mister Bell, thank you for not resisting. Usually when we arrest someone for murder they try to resist or insist on their innocence." Detective Montoya set down her notepad and waited. But Rico just stared at them. His inaction and lack of response was enough to unnerve them. "You have nothing to say?"
Rico just raised an eyebrow in response.
That seemed to be the straw that broke the camel's back for Detective Bullock. He stepped forward and slammed his hands on the table. "You killed a man! You are not getting away with this! Tommy Brase was the owner of a simple Record Store. Yet after having a loud argument with him at the pub, you followed him down the street then beat him to death."
Detective Montoya tapped the tablet a few times and then spun it around. It had a video queued up. It started playing and he watched as he saw himself in the clothes he wore a few days ago. He was talking with that person they were talking about. He once met the person at the pub and had a short discussion with him. But he had no need for his information broker services just yet.
In the video they were talking and it quickly escalated into an argument. Then he walked away. The video was silent so there was no way to tell what they were talking about. But Rico seemed to be angry. Then the video ended and Montoya spun it around and then put on another video and showed it to him.
This video was of the information broker walking down the sidewalk. It was grainy with black and white video. But it clearly showed someone with Rico's appearance walking up and beating the information broker over the head with a baseball bat. He then spit on the body and walked away.
Rico frowned but leaned back as much as he could before shrugging. Because while it was clearly him in the videos there was only one problem. That all happened between midnight and four am yesterday. During which time he was somewhere else.
Granted he was doing something illegal last night. But still he was far too busy to have an argument and then kill the information broker because of said argument. This was an issue. On one hand he had a very good alibi. But on the other hand, the alibi would probably get him in far more trouble. He was just going to have to tough this out until they figured out that this was not him.
He sighed and looked at them again, "so have either of you called a lawyer for me yet? Or-"
Bullock was around the table and slamming Rico's head into the table. Rico moved his jaw, adjusting it as he allowed his head to be smooshed into the table. "Fucking scum! We have you dead to rights! You are going to Blackgate until your court date!" He then walked back around the table and out the door. Slamming it shut as he went.
Montoya sighed as Rico leaned back again. He looked at her and she frowned as she looked at him. "When we arrested you only had the clothes on your back. You did not have your phone or anything else on you. Do you mind telling me where it is in your gym? As you pointed out we do not have the right to search the place. But we are getting permission. You could speed this up by telling us what this was about." She informed him.
But Rico just stared at her, "lawyer."
Montoya gave up after a minute-long staring contest. She put her things together and stood up. Opening the door and looking out somewhere. "Take him to Blackgate. Hopefully doing some hard time will loosen his lips." She informed the police officers. They walked in and brought him out of the room.
He was taken right out to the side of the building where an armored prison bus was waiting. He was escorted on and brought back and sat down in a seat. Then they left and more prisoners came out to the bus over the course of half an hour. It was partially filled by the time the bus departed.
Once it started making its way he had his phone appear in his hand. He quickly began sending off messages and directions. Explaining what this was about and what to do. There were a few things to consider.
One, he had to get some guards on the information broker's family and explain to them the situation. Another was to get everything illegal out of the building. A third was more in the category of rights, he would have Edgelady transfer rights of the buildings to the new mercenary company.
"Hey you got a phone. Can you-" The person sitting next to him began talking but Rico just elbowed him in the face. Knocking him out. He then caused his phone to disappear and waited for the ride to end.
Earlier when they came to arrest him the only things he did not put in his inventory was the clothes on his back. All of which aside from his boots were not things he could put in his inventory.
Maybe he should have gotten a contact number for Ivy as well. He resummoned his phone and asked Sweetie to go check on the plant woman and to send him her contact information. As well as inform her that he was arrested for a crime he did not commit.
He leaned back in his chair when he was done and watched as the city passed by. He was able to watch as a purse snatcher ran off and a pair of road rage drivers got into a fist fight in the middle of the road. Gotham would never change.
