Rico, Coin, and Artemis were walking up to the police line. He waved a hand at his contact. A very angry and annoyed looking GCPD officer. "You are late."
Rico chuckled, "no we are early, by about an hour."
"Well an hour ago they just sent a counter attack." The officer nodded at the area the police line was surrounding. There were several different divisions from local police to federal groups. "We had a partial foothold inside but now we are taking shots from the entrance."
Bang Bang Bang
Almost as if to illustrate his point there were several gunshoots in the air. All of the officers ducked for cover while Coin moved behind Artemis. Artemis did not even flinch as she moved her head slightly as a bullet missed her. While Rico ignored the bullets and just walked forward. "In that case, can we get started? You asked us to scout deeper, but we could take the doorway for you again."
They were hired by the GCPD, the city, and the federal agencies to get a foothold into the Gotham Underground. As it stands they were still struggling with this since they had so much in terms of manpower and illegal weapons that allowed them to prevent them from getting in.
Then they could not turn to help from vigilantes especially when just the other day an act was proposed that would turn superpowered vigilantes into criminals. There was a lot of pushback but the proposal was a wakeup call that basically put the police on notice to stop relying on these vigilantes.
"Please do." The officer answered as he ducked behind a vehicle.
Rico nodded and took a look at the situation. There were at least two enemies at the entrance. When he activated his eagle vision he could see there were two in the front with five more enemies deeper in the cave. He disabled it and looked around the police blockade. There was a single building with a visible entrance deeper into the cave. There was also equipment that the police and federal agencies had left to the side.
"Artemis, grab a riot shield. You are going in first." He nodded at the pile of equipment. He then looked at Coin and pointed at a building. "You should have a view from up there, get in a sniping position. Keep your head on a swivel."
Coin nodded and ran over and jumped over the police barricade. Moving past the reporters that were hiding behind the police barricade. It looked like a few stray bullets had hit them as well. Hopefully they would remain too scared to interfere.
Rico pulled his laser pistol out of his holster and looked at the system notification that popped up as he was giving orders.

Clear the Entrance

He then walked up behind Artemis who grabbed a larger riot shield that had metal plating. "You know it is not very gentlemanly to hide behind a woman." Artemis pointed out as she began moving toward the side of the entrance.
Rico tapped his comm device and chuckled, "testing testing. I just want to point out that you are taller than me. It would be very difficult to hide behind me. Besides from what I understand, you are a terrible shot and there is no scenario where you can swing that big axe in this small cave entrance." Rico pointed out as they moved up to the entrance.
"I have a visual on the entrance. I have eyes on two immediate bogeys and at least three additional bogeys further back. But after that the cave curves off." Coin interrupted, she was close but he was not going to fault her. It looked like there were two that she could not see in the tunnel from her view. "Also, I just want to agree with Artemis. You really should have offered first."
Rico rolled his eyes. "Can we just get this done you two? Edgelady, Artemis, are you reading me as well?" Rico asked as he switched his laser pistol to lethal.
"I hear you." Artemis answered. "Hey when do I get my own callsign?"
"Whenever you need it. Rico's is Honey Badger. Just to let you know?" Coin pointed out.
Rico frowned, feeling like he was being made fun of. "Just so you know, Honey Badgers are resilient and annoying to kill."
"Honey Badger…" Artemis mumbled. "How cute…"
Rico sighed as he shook his head. "Edgelady?"
"I am here. Just enjoying your banter. All of your visual recorders are up." Edgelady told them.
"Okay, time to get going." Jace told them. "Coin, take out the pair at the entrance."
Bang Bang!
Two shots whizzed through the cave entrance and they could hear the collapse of the bodies. "Going in." Artemis declared and moved to the entrance while holding up her shield to cover herself. Or atleast partially coverherself. "Damn this thing is too small."
"We will find you something bigger and better later." Rico told her as he followed her and peaked out and fired down the tunnel. Hitting another enemy. "Feel free to shoot over our shoulders Coin."
Bang
Another bullet flew through the entrance and blew off the head of an enemy that peaked out from cover. "Understood. But it looks like they won't give me another chance." Coin pointed out and Rico had to agree. They were hiding behind cover now.
Rico patted Artemis' arm and waved forward. He peaked out from behind her shield as they moved forward. Another enemy peaked out of cover. Counting on Artemis blocking the entrance so Coin could not shoot them. But a laser to the face put a scorching hole right through his head.
Then as they got closer he saw another peak out and he fired at them but they ducked back behind cover and the laser scorched some rock. Then the last two ran out at the same time with their knives drawn. Rico hit one in the head with a laser. But the last one used the other one's body as cover and managed to close the distance.
He grabbed the top of the shield and tried to vault over but Artemis grabbed him by the scruff and tossed him out of the cave. "Another one for you Coin!" Artemis called out as she spun back around and took up a defensive stance against the deeper part of the cave.
Bang
There was another gunshot and the last guy's head disappeared in a burst of red blood and brains.
"Done." Rico sighed. "Let's do our job now. We can get deeper into the cave now and scout it out. Coin, we are only going to be there for a few minutes. Keep watch just in case." Rico told her as he tapped Artemis' shoulder and she began moving forward.
