Coin watched as they went around a curve and went out of her sight. She sighed but then froze as she could hear movement coming from the apartment that she was inside of. It was supposed to be abandoned. Whoever shot it up made sure of that. Which was part of the reason she picked this one.
But she backed up slightly and looked at her scope, getting a reflection on the single door that led into the room she was laying down in. Her left hand pulled a knife out discreetly. She then watched as the door opened and a woman walked in.
She flipped around and was already throwing it when she noticed the woman was holding a notepad and pencil and had a very clearly labeled lanyard. It was labeled 'reporter' on it. Coin twisted her body slightly and the thrown knife went wide and slammed into the door frame right by the woman's head.
The woman froze and blinked before dropping her notepad and pencil and raising her hands up into the air. "I- I am with the Gotham Gazette! I am Vicki Vale!" She announced in a panic.
But Coin was already grunting in annoyance as she stood up and walked over. Pulling the knife out of the door frame. "Clearly, what the hell were you thinking? You would think someone from Gotham would know better."
Vicki Vale crouched down carefully and picked up her pencil and notepad with shaking hands. "Yeah, I just wanted an interview. Or to get some answers to a few questions." Vicki explained.
Coin pointed at a chair in a corner. "Sit." She ordered as she got back into position. "Edgelady, I have a reporter here. One Vicki Vale."
"Let's see… Vicki Vale. Oh? How attractive. She is a reporter with the Gotham Gazette. Her big piece and claim to fame is about Gotham's very own Dark Knight." Edgelady began explaining. "Seems like she is working on a story about the Gotham Underground at the moment. She is a very, 'boots on the ground' reporter. Constantly gets in trouble for it as well."
"Sounds like trouble. Feel free to answer her questions, Coin. Just be careful about what you give away and what promises you make." Rico cut in. The signal was a bit scratchy though so they must be getting to the point where the radio signal started to cut off.
Coin grunted in response as she looked over the area with her scope. "I will answer if I can or want to. Otherwise just treat my grunts as a nonanswer." Coin declared as she spotted something strange going on outside the police barricade.
"Umm… okay. To start off. Are you mercenaries?" Vicki asked now that she was calmer and the threat of death was not over her.
"Yes." Coin answered.
"Okay… were you hired by the GCPD or one of the federal agencies?"
"Both…" Coin moved slightly as she watched this man in a track suit as he pulled out a radio and began talking on it.
"What about-"
"Can you hold off for a second." Coin told her, not really leaving room for debate as she watched the tracksuit guy look down a street she could not see from her location. "Rico, Artemis, it looks like we are about to have guests out here." Coin pointed out.
"Okay, we are going to go a bit deeper. Then we will come back out. Try to keep the police alive. But do not risk your own life." Rico ordered after deciding to keep scouting.
"Understood." Coin took a moment and steadied herself. She then watched as the tracksuit guy ducked into a partially destroyed shop. Then a moment later a garbage truck came barrelling through the street.
She aimed at the driver cabin and saw it was empty. So she ignored it and aimed back at the street just as a white van followed the garbage truck in its path going right toward the police barricade.
She could hear as several gunshots and shouting signaled their awareness that the police noticed the battering ram that was the garbage truck. While the screaming was an indication that the people watching and reporters were being hit by it.
Coin was more focused on the white van as she adjusted her aim and fired. Then as they were driving forward the bullet went through the passenger window, the passenger's head, then the driver's head. She could tell because the van immediately veered to the side and the windshield was covered in blood from their heads exploding.
She watched as it veered off and slammed into the light pole. Then after a few minutes people in suits with various types of masks started coming out of the back. She fired and got another two for one with a raccoon mask and balaclava mask.
But they got wise and started moving behind cover as she went for another shot. She clicked her tongue and watched as they hid behind cover before one of them pulled out a radio and peeked out from cover. She fired and blew out his brains, but she was unable to shoot the one who grabbed the radio.
"Damn." Coin cursed as she realized they were probably calling out her position. She turned to Vicki Vale. "Please tell me you closed the door." Coin asked, who was at this point a mess as she ducked on the ground with her hands on her head.
"What? No!" Vicki answered with a shake of her head. Clearly not keeping her cool under pressure.
"Fuck." Coin moved into a crouching position and moved to the door aiming through the front door and down the hall. A moment later a person came around the corner and she fired. The bullet went through his head and the person following him immediately doubled back and went around the corner.
Coin snapped her fingers to get Vicki Vale's attention and then pointed to a position near a bookcase. She seemed to understand immediately as she moved and ducked between the desk and bookcases.
Coin then moved back into the apartment and took up a position at the edge of the kitchen counter while aiming down the hall. This position would have work for now.
She took another shot as someone peaked around a corner but they ducked back quickly and the bullet slammed into the wall. Tearing up the paint and fake candle that was hanging from the wall.
